Following your lead in a hypothetical crap shoot then in your scenario…

We would have to pay Brisbane to take Ridley off our hands by covering, at a minimum, half his existing contract, with nothing coming back.

The AFL would see through this as shady as ■■■■, likely resulting in them taking away the compo pick as punishment.

Um, what the hell? It would have been approaching Brisbane to see if there was interest, and if there was, then part of the trade could have been paying part or all of Ridley’s salary and them boosting their offer to Draper enough to trigger Band 1. And if we’re rebuilding we don’t need that cap space.

Something like #38, F1 and FF1 for Ridley with us paying his full salary for 4 years. I have no idea if Brisbane would have gone with it, but noting that those future firsts are every chance to be later than #18 and #35 in value.
