As I said, I’m still interested to a degree. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who uses this platform to talk about all sorts of things, footy being the central topic though.
But the excitement doesn’t exist atm, the anticipation isn’t there and the expectations on field are reasonably low. And a club wanting to just quietly go about its business isn’t getting me off the couch yet!
I agree with you, and I think the lack of excitement and anticipation is widespread. I don’t think there’s anyone posting things like, I really think we’re going to take a big step next year, or, we’ve turned the corner and we’re on the way up. The attitude generally seems to be that until we actually start beating the best teams, nobody is expecting anything much different from the last couple of highly disappointing years.
There’s no hard evidence for that. It’s just the feeling I get as I read posts on here. It’s certainly my feeling. I expect no improvement next year – I’m not saying that we’ll be worse, I’m saying I feel that we’ll be boringly and frustratingly mediocre again.
Nobody is leading the club to a better, flag-winning future. Everyone is just doing his job. Nothing more.
While my confidence levels are not high, my interest levels have increased due to the influx of this new group of recruits. Too early to say how they will go but our younger players have piqued my interest, and l am keen to see how many of them go, l have felt this since we picked up Caddy, then Saad and now Pryor and the newbies. I might even get up to see a practice game with Lawry again in the new year.
Similar to @dmaplestone I feel a bit indifferent about the Bombers at the moment.
I lost whatever trust I had in them when they crumbled in the second half of the year.
Then not long after I was invoiced and realised I would be paying a total of $500 more for myself and my better half to go in 2025.
About the same time as the membership invoice the fixture landed with a plethora of Thursday and Friday night games which because of family and health concerns, I won’t be going to.
And now yesterday inexplicably the club decides not to recognise Christmas.
I’d like to feel bullish about Prior, but he’s been at Brisbane for 5 years and not established a permanent spot in the team. Yes they have a lot of very good players, but very good players are what we want.
Ha ha! Yeah, that Christmas thing ■■■■■■ me off too. It’s just the little (with the big) things they do to disappoint these days. I hear you @Begbie , but we can’t do without your interest levels and output!!
Happy new year mate. I’m sure our interest will be stoked once again by Caddy and Kako.
I’m with you here @Captain_Jack!
Of course there can be no confidence of an immediate improvement, but there is a feeling that sensible ‘ground works’ have been undertaken.
New recruiters turning a lousy draft hand into something much more valuable
Departure of some perhaps questionable characters
Speed and better foot skills being added to the group
Further development and experience for very promising youngsters
I’m looking forward to attending training early next and observing firsthand the early steps of a new group.
Would fkn love it if Brad went full worth from round 1. Won’t happen but even a much more youth based approach will do. See if I care if this means we only win 7 games tops - hello top 5 pick.
The most fun I’ve had in 20 years at the footy was watching the top ups/kids in 2016.
I’ll do me narna if the kids miss out because deadwood like Redman, McGrath, Gresham and possibly even Parish are prioritised.
Interesting topic on how fans approach 2025. I am always excited about 8 new players joining but i must admit i am not as enthused due to my belief 2025 will be a middle of the road finish again. Just don’t believe in the list to be blunt who continually under perform when real expectation rises. We would have to have a near perfect health return for 23 rounds for us to maybe make finals. It’s unlikely though. Nothing at training as yet has given me confidence. I can see what we are trying to do but it hasn’t to my eyes been convincing.
I tip us to finish around 10th.
I sense club knows our list isn’t up to scratch post Dodoro and at least trying a different approach.
Honestly I’m not sure how 2024, of all seasons, was the tipping point for so many.
2023 was more disappointing on the home stretch, and August 2022 was a genuine contender for feeling the most hopeless about the club. 2021 is the only season that ended with any kind of optimism in the last 6 years (due to seeing a young team overachieve and make finals with the best % since 2003).
