Preseason Training 11/11/24 (and onwards till someone creates a new thread)

So are we tracking better or worse than in 2008?

Hobbs has dominated some VFL games, his last one had 34 disposals and kicked a goal.

Elijah’s last game was 41 disposals and a goal.

well in 2008 we had a cricket wicket to deal with - so there’s been some progress

I watched a few VFL games last year Tsatas dominated, and that was with a tag. Hobbs, Setterfield and Shiel were a step below him. He’s earned a run in the firsts. I’ve got no problems with the others fitting in to the side where they can or stepping up in the VFL and demanding a spot in their best position.

I guess if you’re ever going to have a group thats a bit quieter than normal… it’s today. Sating that its been a lot of scrappy sessions this pre-season.

Thanks for the write-up BD.

Sloppy ball handling, missed targets, this seems to be endemic. Is it just us? If I went to Geelong or Swans training would they all be nailing their passes, or is crappy kicking normal at this time of year?

All this emphasis on turning up to training in great shape - I’d rather they turned up looking and kicking like Stuey Dew.

I think Hobbs and Tsatsas were regarded as a couple of the best players not getting a kick at AFL level last year.(across the comp)

Hopefully they go up a gear when we bring them into the seniors this year.

Is there an emphasis on the KPF lag back toward goal. Ie. Waiting for the long bomb to the goal square.

And leading at the ball is the responsibility of the medium forwards (Langford, Perkins, resting midfielder)?

You’d hope that the Key forwards could coordinate who leads and who stays…… but doesn’t look to be the case, once again.

Hook it to my veins.

What do you put that down to Scott? Changing roles, lots of fresh faces and lack of synergy? Or simply we’re a low ranking team that needs lots of growth and development… And more talent?

Probably related to the Dale Tapping news, unfortunately

edit: if you meant scrapiness well… we’re a young team trying to get our ■■■■ together

More the generally scrappy sessions for the preseason generally I guess was my query?

Tsatas was copping the tag in that game and Hobbs left to run free

Such a shame that every session seems to have been poor or scrappy sounds like not much has changed and we are about to hit the practice games

it’s a good question

i’d say overall the ball was typically sent deep to the goal half of the 50m arc

maybe that was the focus today and other leading patterns to the top of the 50m arc will be / have been developed

regular training watchers will know better than me

Its hard to really know. My first thought was they are really pushing ball movement to be a lot more instinctive and quick and its leading to less safe aggressive kicks. But that in my head is a bit of a stretch with some skill errors i see.

I still have a hunch we lack a bit of intensity at training thats a bit too far from game day. Sometimes you need high intensity and i find when the group are hype and physical it often leads to better disposal.

All clubs are obligated to coach the mind as well as the body. Explain to 18 year old boys that they need positional flexibility. Lots of players have taken years to get a spot, look at Tsatas, he is trying harder, not giving up. One requires mental strength to be successful in any endeavour.
