Preseason Training 11/11/24 (and onwards till someone creates a new thread)

Is there going to be any TV coverage of the practice games, stuffed if I’m paying to travel to the other side of the city for pracci game

That would be a reasonable output. For me some of the improvement needs to come from the midfielders getting more active in goal kicking. Durham is very capable pushing forward and nabbing goals, as is Duursma. Caldwell and Merrett have responsibility in that regard too. If they can get themselves above 10 for the season, approach more like 15 then that’s a good spread.

We literally had 2 players that look comfortable playing both midfield and kicking goals, one is gone (Stringer) and one the coach decided to play as far away from the forward line as possible (Martin).

have an idea they were on kayo last year but there may be vision from the bomber website or AFL as per the VFL last year

No l said what l meant, “Let it go” from Frozen which l referenced.

Saying “X player needs to add more goals to his game” is kind of missing the point.

Goals happen when multiple players execute well in multiple areas of the ground. You could have 4-5 players all execute their roles 2x better, while the guy on the end of it kicking the goals might be doing nothing differently to what they were before.

Sometimes you will see a forward come along and transform a team by doing it all on their own, but it’s those micro improvements across the board that are more likely to improve goal tallies across the team.

I believe the Crows have no injuries either. #Burgess.

Proves that chronic injuries tear after tear is in some part mismanagement.

Essendon hasn’t had a Burgess type year for as long as I can remember.

Yes and no. I don’t agree all teams have injuries every year. The Crows don’t under Burgess. The Demons won a flag with a golden run under that bloke.

It’s reasonable to put a microscope on Essendon, they’ve been substandard in conditioning for many years and it shouldn’t be brushed aside as something we should expect or accept as being normal business.

Sustained success requires great decision after great decision. Those decisions involve conditioning too.

It not only impacts the individuals injured but hampers team connection and development.

I can guess which one will be needed with a high degree of probability. You can post it in the Lid On thread.

The evidence shows that if a player misses a chunk of preseason, it impacts them and the team through the year.

There was a great article from (I think) Burgess posted on BLITZ who explained this and how players under his methods just keep training when a bit sore, taking time off predisposes them to injury.

Bottom 4 for us. The rebuild is on its way.

Thanks Nikko and dmaplestone, don’t have Kayo, was hoping might get some coverage on Foxtel Footy, guess I’ll just hope there’s something on the Bomber website

I’m not sure we actually need to tank to be bottom 4.

I think the club has improved in the area since the middle of last year. Many of the injuries are contact ones and not soft tissue which are hard to control and the soft tissue injuries are to the injury prone players like Rids, Guelfi and Parish which are again harder to manage as it more their bodies than mismanagement.

Can we try to improve in that area, yes but there has been a big improvement in soft tissue injuries and stress injuries to non injury prone players. That was the big issue in the last few years

they did have injuries under Burgess ( hibberd, petty, pickett for melbourne ,rankin, butts fogarty for adelaide) but they had greater depth to cover them.We also have repeat injuries to the same players which is more of a concern and burgess seems to be a master of managing these.Outside of him all other clubs are like us

Ok thanks for that, I can look forward to that now, I’m not as pessimistic as some, I’m looking forward to getting a look at some of the new blokes, I think ( hope) we’re on the right track at last

They had far fewer injuries than most teams under Burgess.
