Priority Prick

No one “deserves” to get anything. That’s how the corruption we’re arguing about is perpetuated.

Fark off Carlton…Just Fark off.

They should be more demanding and just ask for a premiership cup.
The extra picks didn’t help them the way they intended last time.

Getting Schache and Weitering would set up both ends of the ground for them for a decade, any club in their position would be dumb not to try. They won't get it, if anyone deserves it it's Brisbane.

Indeed. Brisbane have been ■■■■■■ ordinary the last 5 years. Let them have Schache and Weitering.

Brisbane are in worse shape simply because they cannot keep their players at the club. The amount of their young brigade that have requested to leave over the past two years is staggering, it would decimate any club. Giving them priority picks does not fix this issue.

Priority picks should not exist before the end of the first round.

Oh ■■■■ off. It’s a competition not a ■■■■■■■ charity love in.

Why not just please everyone.
Give everyone a priority pick. Everyone’s draft pick gets pushed back.

“competition”

So a ‘key plank’ of farkcarltons submission for a priority pick is that they have won 4 wooden spoons in 13 years.

In 3 of those years they were blatantly tanking. In fact one of their own ex-coaching staff came out and dobbed them in for actively trying to lose games, which of course the AFL ‘thoroughly investigated’.

The tanking also allowed them to get the best player in the competition at the time and the AFL even allowed ■■■■ pratt rort the salary cap and pay judd under the table whilst only a few years later, officially banning others from conducting similar deals (whilst letting the legacy judd deal run it’s course).

Of those 3 number 1 picks they ‘won’, they are now trying to ensure that 1 of them is moved on from the club…so that they can get another high draft pick…7 years after tanking to get him.

Said player has played only 119 of a possible 176 H&A games, is not even considered a top 5 player in his position and the AFL is conditioning the football following public to accept that ■■■■■■■ carlton should rightly receive pick 2 for this dud?

How the ■■■■ is the AFL even allowed to call itself a ‘competition’!?!?

Just like getting both Matthew Watson and Pat McCarthy was supposed to shore up their key defensive posts for years to come, in the draft after we got Hurley when they picked up Yarran with the pick before him.

simmo41 is correct, give them the first five picks, then sit back and watch them burn.

At least occasionally we get some of our picks right.

Scum requesting a priority prick, oh this is conditioning the AFL for no.2 for Kruezer. Similar to Melbourne and Frawley.

Why doesn’t the AFL save the time and announce how they are going to manipulate the rules.

Given how Frawley has played Demons made out like bandits on that one.

They can gagf.

From a club that said “I shouldn’t say this in front of the cameras, but it’s very, very difficult to see where we’re going to lose a game" at the start of the season.

Did they really say that?

Well, Malthouse did. And it’s legit unclear whether he was serious.

Exactly right. Fair dinkum, no fantasy writer could just not make ■■■■ like this up.

Yes, much re-quoted statement from the mighty Mick Malthouse. Remember him?

Probably just a beat up nothing story, but saw this and thought no farking way.

Even though priority picks are unlikely, if the AFL can’t get their act together and decide this before trade period starts, there is something seriously wrong. In a list of stupid, unfair & corrupt decisions made in recent years, this would rank right up there if it came true.

THE AFL Commission will meet at the end of September to discuss priority pick requests from Carlton and the Brisbane Lions, but there are no guarantees it will make a call before the start of the exchange period.

Although rival clubs believe it is paramount that a decision on the priority picks is made before trading opens on October 12, it is understood there has been no deadline placed on a resolution.

Carlton last week announced it was applying for a priority pick, saying it would help the club “improve quicker” as it goes through its rebuild.

The Lions have also put a submission to the AFL for an extra draft pick, having endured retention issues with top-end talent in recent years.

Under the AFL rules for special assistance, the League has discretion to hand out an extra draft selection to a club at any point in the draft – not just at the start as was previously the case under the priority pick legislation.

Melbourne applied for a priority pick in 2013 and 2014 after poor seasons, but was denied in both cases. The AFL made those decisions near the end of September, before the free agency and trade periods began.

Clubs say it is important that the League makes its ruling on the priority picks before the exchange period begins so recruiters are aware if picks will have slid down positions or remained unmoved.

Some suggest being pushed down the order by two spots in the early part of the NAB AFL Draft could change the view of a club whether it would be willing to trade a first-round pick or not.

The Blues, Lions and Gold Coast look set to have the most active presence in the early stages of this year’s draft.

Carlton will look to gain an early pick for departing key position player Lachie Henderson, while the Gold Coast will trade Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell.

The Suns already hold three picks inside the first 22 selections having activated their final compensation pick they acquired several years ago.

Yarran was pick 6 - blues wanted Hurley, think we were pick 5.
bit like them wanting Langford, but we were the pick before them.

I’ve actually come around to giving Carlton a priority pick. End of 3rd round. Watch them try and pretend like they’re happy with that. It’d be pretty great.

And watch every AFL club try and get away with this when they end up on the bottom of the ladder.

Carlton “made” the finals in 2013, now they want a priority pick. Seriously?

Yes thanks for the correction Houli.

I did mean it the other way around but stuffed it up.
