Is this a way to skirt the edges of the soft cap.
Have Rance play VFL next season, teaching setups and KPD to Brand, BZT, Reid and whoever else is down there. Make sure the field is setup in the VFL.
VFL has a salary cap. So doubtful it would work.

The reason why Port drafted Tyson Goldsack as a rookie was to have his salary as a coach not be part of the football department cap. They are happy to have him sit on the list, play for Port in the SANFL occasionally and work as a coach, but there’s zero intention of him playing in the AFL. I wonder if the AFL will close that loophole?
More likely Andy Welsh may give Rancey some land development advice!

If we want to spend more money than the soft cap, we just spend it and pay a premium. That’s what makes it a soft cap.
