When your hearing gets to the stage where “background” music on TV shows and movies is at the same level or louder than the dialogue and you can’t make out what people are saying.

I started using subtitles a couple of years back as I have about 20% hearing loss.

It’s amazing. So many movies the most important info is just mumbled, so the subtitles really help with overall following storyline.

My kids have started doing it too…makes me feel younger.

When you buy your
own Xmas gifts, and then wrap them for yourself.

About 10 years ago l bought an early John Woo/Jackie Chan movie on DVD, a drama. The menu allowed for subtitles and also for a dubbed soundtrack. It was hilarious because the two things didn’t match. I kept it and was going to use it in an ESL class, but never got the chance to.

School kids give up their seat for you on a bus like you’re some old codger.

Wait till it is the young ladies who give up their seats for you, all is then lost .
