Extra rookie spots are just as important for us than and end of 1st round pick.
Id be tempted to use it not just for more development players but even for older AFL guys who can provide onfield leadership in the VFL before transitioning to assistant coaching careers.
They’d basically be VFL playing coaches to make up for the distinct lack of quality veteran leadership our list has.
I wouldn’t want them to be taking game time from the young guys in the AFL but to have experienced bodies with guys noted for setting standards and direction to the kids will an important part of building the team.
Guys like Rampe, Melksham who are at the end of their careers and might be looking to get into coaching might be good candidates for this dual role, whilst also boosting the VFL results which is still being neglected imo

We’d be better off asking for every other club to have five less.

He knows how important Essendon is to the competition and even he is well aware an entire generation of fans have suffered now for too long. Thats how low we have sunk that even our fiercest rivals have empathy for us.
Any media clamour in support of us receiving a package helps our cause. A 2-3 win season all but locks in that we would get one I think with the spectre of Tassie looming very, very large in the horizon.
We may well be fortunate enough to be in the final full rabble form these next 3 months making the decision easy for the AFL.

Anyone remember what WC got and when? Didn’t they receive a draft bounty not long after winning the 2018 flag?
1x end of first round pick in 2025, plus extra rookie list spots.
And that was after 4 consecutive years in the bottom 3.
We haven’t finished bottom 3 since 2016.

Bring back Compensations system less than 5 wins = priority pick.
But scrap Free agency compensation, clubs may try to hold onto their good players then, or at least chase other free agents without risk losing free agency compensation
Statistically, the most even the v/afl ever was, was the 16 team era with the early priority picks.
I think over a decade every team made 1+ prelim and nearly every team a GF.

We would have been in even more strife if this was around. With North, WC and Richmond all being really crap, our first picks would have been in the teens.
