4 of the current top 6 sides have finished below us in the last 6 years.
Fremantle finished below us just 3 years ago.
It’s time to stop blaming everyone else, the buck stops with us

Given how Daicos, Darcy, JUH, both Ashcrofts, Uwland were rated, there is a decent argument it’s pretty common.
Only the very tail end. They impacted the 2010 draft, we finished 4th last and second last in 2005 and 2006. We played finals in 2009 and 2011.
Wasn’t this year our worst performing year ever? Hard to top that for an assistance package I would have thought
Amen. If the club starts making the right decisions on and off the field, we’ll improve. AFL didn’t make us sign Parish to a long term deal or recruit McKay and Gresh. No one forced us to use pick 5 on a player with severe limitations or underspend on our soft cap or bring in a coach with no track record of development to you know…develop our squad.
We’ve made our bed - we just have to start getting the decisions right. No more coach changes every 2.5 years, no more attempted Board spills and hire the best footy department possible to support Spike. If we get these items right, things will get better and probably reasonably quickly.
The AFL changing the NGA bidding system back, when we had Kako coming in, was AFL assistance.
Let’s not fool ourselves.
Worsfold was our coach from 2016-2020 and Brad got 3.5 years from 2023 to 2026.
It is a fallacy that we have been sacking coaches for fun. The last decade proves that. Rutten the only one that could feel aggrieved.
3 year contracts should be the norm for new coaches which is exactly what we have given Mcveigh.
Them stripping it for years we didn’t have any good NGAs also helped.
So far.
2027 says hold my beer.
Ontop of this they didnt even offer Allen a contract to stay because they knew theyd get good compo… a joke
He completely is rigid in his thinking and ignores our long term lack of success.
Outside of the AFL bubble this would likely be referred to as ‘institutional corruption’.
They actually pushed Allen out.
Allen wanted to stay but WC knew the compo and “suggested” to him that he should move on
So a decision isn’t made until the Commission meet, but somehow a decision has been made?
I don’t really understand the bonus of having extra rookie spots. While I know sometimes a club can find a player, it is the draft of leftovers after pretty much every club has exhausted any wanted players.
Don’t talk sensibly when I’m trying to express my hate for Geelong in an unreasonable manner
I thought they did that to help GC as they had a bunch of players coming through either in that draft but also the next. Might be wrong, I’d need to check.
Always good to remind ourselves of how completely and undeniably corrupt the AFL actually is…
They have academy, not NGA, players. Academy players were never impacted.
You have to remember that was when the AFL was actively trying to kill Fitzroy. They are only passively killing us.
You’re forgetting the 2004 draft
. They got Richard Tambling at pick 4 after taking Deledio at 1.
Not sure pick 5 was a big miss in Buddy Franklin
Ok, thanks for the clarification.
