Our biggest win I can remember. Seriously. Epic.
I am sure of it now. This team has turned the corner. The Essendon of the last 15 years would have rolled over when they got on the run and were pulling them from their behind. And then at the end, it was all set for a heartbreaking loss but they kept digging.
But this team under truck is a different ■■■■■■■ breed. It’s going to take some time but, finally, we are going somewhere.
Perkins has been threatening to show what he could do all season and tonight he went to the next gear. The shimmies, the side steps. His spatial awareness is out of this world.
Hepps was epic. Parish super again. Merrett was Merrett (which is really very good). Langford brilliant. Walla is a freak of nature. Lav is a warrior. Stewart did a decent job on Kennedy. Hind started poorly but just kept going. Hooker and Jones kept competing all night. Package was underdone but kicked them when it counted.
Couple of negatives. Just about every Zaharakis touch made us worse off. I was super happy for Waterman when he kicked his goal but I just don’t think he has enough tricks to be a long term proposition - he was largely a liability when it hit the ground.
But those things don’t matter tonight. I’m finally happy to be an Essendon supporter again.
