Worst game of the year so far. Can never trust Essendon. Sludge of a game, was like watching Rutten style footy again. Lights are on but no one’s home. The fumbling was s
From the first bounce, we were there but didn’t come to play. What a shocking display.
Actually, I think, the team think or some in the team think, we are a better team than what we really are.
So @MattyKnights do I um still need to watch our games and systems ?
I did warn you before the game , if you were truly as scarred as you claimed , you would not have been so cocky and arrogant before the game about how much essendon has changed… I did also warn you you wouldn’t get to hide behind the excuse of losing after the bye.
See essendon people will never learn … You always have to get ahead of yourselves , and be arrogant with very little actual substance to back it up…
The irony being if your post was a Carlton ran saying stuff about Carlton as you did , 99 percent of people would laugh at how delusional they are.
You said it about us , and a few others were up and about on the bandwagon too , how’d it turn out again ?
I did tell you that game was a prime game for essington… Argh well you lot will never learn to read the patterns and cycles… Amh
It was a danger game, and I kind of more expected that type of loss against the blues.
if we played freo before the bye and Carlton this week, we likely beat Freo and lose to blues.
Would have liked to have won. But note there was some team changes,
Hind out - Kelly in, that ended up being a net loss for us, lost leg speed and Hind was going ok. But understand they wanted to slot Kelly back in.
Draper - Out Bryan in Bryan went ok, but that is a net loss for us
Menzie - out dropped to sub for Parish, Parish started ok, but faded a bit, and our midfield didnt quite gel all night. had some moments, but also poor defensively. Looked like Caldwell played more forward. Would have preferred to drop Snelling or Guelfi to sub. both play Sub role well, and Menzie seems to offer more as the small when undersized/outnumbered than Guelfi/Snelling, bit of blue collar stuff he does havles contests and then some.
I’ve always thought we have a significant number of embarrassing supporters but after sifting through the crap of the last 100 or so posts, I underestimated just how ■■■■■■■ awful some people are.
We had a stinker last night. I can understand some of the venting to an extent as people need to get it off their chest… but…
The reality is we are 8-6 (107%) after Round 15 and coming off a 5 goal loss INTERSTATE to a team that were a couple of kicks away from a Preliminary Final last year… not to mention coming off the BYE where the record for teams playing is now 0-7. Dockers were smashed for the past week and were obviously going to respond. Should we have been better prepared for that? Probably. And maybe that’s where the criticism of the performance needs to be directed but the over the top meltdowns from some people are further proof negativity loves company.
Rewind back to February and the whingers would have jumped to be 6th after Round 15 considering every bit of dialogue from the club has been about the longer term vision and how the path isn’t about 2023. Coach, President etc etc … all saying the same thing.
It’s the end of the world for some now but reality is you won’t even remember losing to Fremantle in Perth if we win our next couple. And even if we don’t, it’s evident what we are building towards down the track.
We had a shocker last night. Port had one against Collingwood, Collingwood had one against Brisbane, Melbourne had one against us, Brisbane had one against Hawthorn, St Kilda had one against Adelaide, Fremantle against GWS last week…
He should be critical of Weiderman. His lack of pressure and physicality and inability to take a mark inside f50 means he’s not only not proving us a scoring option, he’s costing us in terms of our defensive structure. Fremantle exited our f50 far to easily again last night. Our Achilles heal. And Weid needs to contribute more or he won’t have a place in that forward line.
Pray Voss elevates his game quickly. Missing Jones and his lack of trading continuity desperately.
I don’t think things are as bleak as being made out in this thread. Perhaps some were getting a little ahead of themselves eyeing results in the the top 4 and so this week serves as a bit of a reality check for them - we are nowhere near top 4 level and I’m sure Brad knows that.
But Freo are capable of playing decent footy - they got smashed last week but only recently beat Geelong, Melbourne away and Sydney away. The won a final last year. They are probably around our mark and we would be hope to be winning that game in Melbourne.
Tonight clearly exposed some structural weaknesses, they came with a clear plan and we had no answer for it - go man on man and make us dump kick down the line - when our contested work is as bad as it is and you have guys like Darcy, Cox, Ryan, Pearce, you are going to win far more than you lose. And they did. Well played.
All eyes on next week. I don’t think Port off the bye at the G is as insurmountable as some are making out, but we need to be better than this week. Need to get our selections right first - got to play a specialist small forward, need to play one of Hind or Mass (for Kelly), have to show some selection integrity and drop Weiderman.
We return off the bye & our team decides to remain on it. Defensively we were so poor. What is the strategy of standing 5m off your opponent all night? And, then chasing with no intent.
It’s great to see Parish win a few clearances (not often to our forwards advantage) but defensively he is a massive liability. His opponent was so often the one delivering the ball cleanly to the opponents advantage into their forward 50. He desire to chase defensively was also non-existent. Hope we don’t overpay to keep him. We actually looked better in the midfield without him.
Weiderman has to have a holiday in the 2’s if BDB is strong to his word. No goals in 4 weeks for a key forward when you are not playing the link role is simple not good enough. Especially when defensively you offer nothing.
Go smaller if you need to. At least forwardline pressure would improve.
Worst performance of the year given who the opposition were. Very disappointing to watch. It felt like Rutten was coaching again
