Stats don’t necessarily always capture the full impact of a player - and that goes both ways - a player can get high numbers but have little influence.
I think it can also be about one values or is looking for in a player regarding how we rate their game.
Honestly the ridiculous media build-up all week set us up to fall in a heap today. If Essington was ever primed to make an appearance, it was today. Just be thankful it was a 40 point win and not a 1 point loss.
Where we werent good was we were caught a little flat footed and just missed targets a little - particularly in close. Under little pressure too from North
We got smoked in centre clearances by a much better ruckman. Save Caldwell our mids were beaten badly in that area.
We applied plenty of pressure, they brought the numbers up on screen at half or quarter time. We ran I think close to 200 however champion data measure it.
But we were not getting rewarded for effort.
I thought in part by not bringing in a second ruck and choosing Tsatsas over Shiel to start we lost our normal ascendency in that area. Probably an area North have some ascending strength in.
I think the cheer squad also the ones who picked the poster and got it reviewed in the last when the rest of the umps were tryna run back to the centre to bounce it
Favourite press conference moment….
When asked about Ridley…
“When I said he’d be playing in the VFL he gave me a look that I hadn’t seen before.” (Maybe not exact quote🤷♀️)
Love it. Rids will play Dreamtime I’m sure.
You can say bullshit as much as you like.
Run and pressure from behind was a marker of the Crows vs Collingwood game yesterday, and comparatively we had None.
They both played finals football.
We played…bullshit.
The sort of bullshit that gets you ahead by sixteen points over 113 minutes against the bottom team that have a sub-60 percentage and zero wins this year.
Our pressure was Absolute Pants.
If it was Adequate, we’d have given them the spanking they deserved.
But we didn’t want to.
Simple as that.
We played only one quarter with purpose - the third. Other than that, it was a disappointment. We got belted out of the centre and, other than on rare occasions, lost too much from what has been a strength for most of the season.
Yes, it’s nice to win and be second on the Ladder but we’ll need to work much harder in the weeks to come.
