Review thread - Dons d Adelaide - the road trip specialists

Yup, confidence is an amazing thing. I reckon that’s the little difference in why we can keep coming back from losing positions, the belief that we can work ourselves back into the game.

Also, the confidence in each other means that the players instinctively know where to hand pass or kick to in congestion, and how there always seems to be an overlap player when running forward.

Wonder how Woosh is feeling now…

At the end of 2015 he needed to make a very big decision. He was at the Crows on the coaching panel (after Phil Walsh’s tragic death) and Adelaide offered him the gig full time for 2016. He still chose us… even after witnessing Adelaide’s 112 point win against us at Etihad that year. A disaster to say the least.

Crows made a Grand Final in 2017 with Dad’s Army… but fast forward now to 2019 and both clubs are heading in opposite directions.

I’ll take any win.
I’m still a little shaky about these guys turning up every week. Beat the Gold Coast by 10 goals and i’ll just about start to believe

I love the term “chaos ball” because it’s what we do. They were looking very controlled with their dinky little accurate passes in that first half and their setup in the back line looked well balanced and confident. Then we started to work on them. Slamming it forward with line breaking runs. Chaos balls coming in at a great rate of knotts and they crumbled. Their system fell apart. That was our best win of the season no doubt. Very proud of the boys. Makes for a nice weekend ahead.

Gold Coast percentage boost? Yeah I don’t think so.

This place will be raging when we are only a point up at Half Time (something like 35-34) and go on and win by 15 points.

Expect the “X player is sore” , “X player has a virus” line to be used by the club this week and we may see quite a different looking team.

4 points & no further injuries will do me fine.

Five minutes before half time, l thought the same, Ade were up and about, dominating the game and the scoreboard was an accurate reflection of the state of play. The 2 red time goals gave me more than hope, l knew we weren’t out of the game, and since we have been good in the second half of games, knew that we were back in the contest. Enter Zack Merrett stage right.

It’s a 9 day break to the Gold Coast game. Hopefully that freshens up a few of them.
Surely Laverde comes back and Clarke and we rest anyone that is sore.
Is it too big a risk to rest Hooker and Heppell?

“Imperial pint”
Wtf

Screw the hated British.

Thought the entire team defended well and looked far more switched on. Previous month of games we’ve had patches of 30 minutes where we’re not guarding the corridor well, not making good choices and generally not taking the game on with the ball as well. We’d have the ball just out of defence and have no one to kick it to because no one else is moving.

Tonight was like 2017 again: Tippa leading into the forward half of the centre square to deliver the ball into 50, mids running in packs and defending when Adelaide won it back.

It wasn’t even like we were playing badly in the second quarter when they got a good lead. They were just winning the ball out of the centre better.

Best win for the season.

I think the 9 day break has come at a good time, yes…

But the shorter 6 day break after the Suns game (when we play Port) may be the deciding factor in who plays and who doesn’t.

@theDJR Random thought - has our winning form coincided with WOB getting banned?

Be afraid, be very afraid of the “Bombers Beast Mode” (BBM) in Q4, activated 4 weeks in row. When in trouble activate BBM, problem solved, game over. Go Bombers !

Getting trades right has been massive for this club and team…last night and the previous weeks Stringer, Saad and Shiel have been immense.

Shiel was finding holes that weren’t there last night and all Crows fans around me groaned every time he got the ball because no one could touch him.

It was a great win, and when considering personal out, interstate and being behind by 5 goal…it made it great.

Concerning though that 79 points out of 96 were scored from back half. This doesn’t stack up in finals. But the last 3 weeks before this we did it differently, and more scored from front half. Maybe we are learning to win differently. We have more strings to our bow.

5 games to go: Gold Coast away, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Fremantle away and Collingwood.

We need to win 3 out of 5 to make it with our bad percentage. We haven’t totally smashed any sides. Most of these games looks 50/50. Going to be close.

We had to play a certain way with the cattle we had out there. We couldn’t win centre clearances, and couldn’t rely on too many big marks inside 50, so we had to be tactical with when and how we attacked.

Thought we recognised a gap in the Crows armour and exploited it perfectly. They couldn’t go with us, at all.

D Clarke just keeps going about it. 19 disposals, 6 tackles, 23 pressure acts and only 1 turnover. Think he started on Sloan who only had 20 disposals and 7 turnovers and looked frustrated at times.
