Review thread: Fark you, Bin Chickens

We’ve come to expect that type of consistent performance from those three so I wasn’t surprised by their contributions. Florent was decent and got his hands on it when playing midfield against some pretty good opponents. He was also solid when played across half back. Yep, decent game.

I expected Essendon to win although the margin was closer than expected. Sydney had their moments and when afforded the space to run from half back, entered their forward half reasonably convincingly at times. They competed pretty well at stoppages with the usual suspects performing well but they didn’t manage to control Z Merrett and D Parish in the last with Parish being particularly influential. McGrath played a decent game also. Sydney were ok defensively, particularly once the mids realised that the game had started five minutes after the Essendon players did and had they been more switched on at the beginning, the result could have gone the other way. Overall, it was another opportunity to get games into the list but even though they lost, the way you lose matters and Sydney didn’t lose too badly.

All the passion of an accountant’s telegram. Is this what it’s come to @Diggers, or is there a fan still locked away inside that bland shell? Are you scared the red and dark side might come out?

The reason DP3 didn’t spend more time on the ball is because the blueprint to beating Sydney (which most teams worked out last year) is to put fresh legs in the middle in the last quarter because Parker and Kennedy can’t run out games at full pace any more. Having Parish dominate in the midfield in the last 1/4 was a strategic decision. There’s no way he’d have had close to the same output if he spent the whole game in there.

Merrett didn’t spend a lot of time in the midfield in the first half. He was relatively quiet. Not sure if he had a tag.

But came home strong in the last. Tippa also had a midfield role in the last.

Will be interesting if that is strategic move each week, of bringing in fresh legs at the centre bounce for the last quarter

Could he have done a shutdown job on Parker?

Nah, Parker is a classic “gets a lot of it but doesn’t do much damage” player. Not worth dedicating 1/18th of your team to focus just on him.

Bottom 6? Well you’re only saying that because they lost those games to the bombers (by a so-called coin-flip), and because you (the journo) think the ladder is worth something after 2 rounds.

I’m not arguing that we were much better that our opponents across the whole game, but it should also be noted that the bombers led both games from start to finish. it’s not like it was neck and neck the whole game and we were just lucky when the siren went.

My 7yo kid has more intelligent footy analysis with his mates than this.

Sydney stayed in the game because of the last ten minutes of the second quarter.
Without it they’d have been five goals down at half time and it would probably have been a blowout.
