Review v gws @ metricon round 19

Fair play. Truth hurts … we’ve a long way to go.

That about sums it up for mine. There is a lot to like about how we have gone so far this season but we are miles from the finished product and playing finals while a great achievement, would only set us back if we got thumped. Still think 2023 is our year for finals, so don’t be surprised if we drop back a bit next year. Very common for sides to get a bump up the ladder in the first year with a new coach only to have second year blues. Best to focus on the system and game plan to see if we are heading in the right direction and on evidence so far I think we are.

Then you were watching the wrong game

Zerk was ok. Had his Zerkism in the first quarter. And Francis was actually pretty good for his first game in a month. And probably pretty good even without that disclaimer.

But if the defence doesn’t let any in thats 3 points every game. Boring football but the premier league will be ours!!! Sorry, wrong thread…

Hahahahahahaha red mist and bad angry language
What tripe

Way too much space, allowing for that game Hawthorn almost perfected in their heyday.

Ive even seen ■■■■■ teams like North do it to us too.

And that is- short sharp 20-25m passes to players running into the ‘space’ that seems to exist from our forward pocket alllllllll the way to their half forward (for a kick into inside 50).

Until I see us have the ability to counteract this strategy, we aint gonna make finals, let alone win one.

9 of 19 games interstate
Youngest side playing in comp
Young recruits have absolutely hit a wall. Cox in particular
Injuries have really curtailed our season.
Exceeded expectation already.
The development within 12 months is exciting.

Absolutely this hurts as expectation of possible finals has crept in when we have no right at this stage of our development. There are some absolute twonks on this site!

Wasn’t that from 2 weeks ago?

Our last 2 games have been shocking.

Does the chart include out on the fulls and Devon smith not making the distance from 40m every week?

the biggest red flag and worry is rutten saying he wants to create a blue collar work ethic

but brings in players like cutler and zaka at the expense of guelfi

just seems like a dumb clueless ■■■■ to me, more passionate than worsfold, but just as stupid

and our defensive zone has been caca all year, teams must revel in playing essendon

you can kick through it, or ju st run off our forwardline and get easy hb receives as essendon players do not chase

Wow.

Some of us really go off the deep end after a 2 goal loss.

Making the 8 this year, I am convinced, would have deluded the club (and a majority of the supporter base) that we are closer to some sort of sustained success than reality.

To not make the finals this year (and avoid a predictably painful 10 goal Week One exit interstate), win potentially 10 games this season, another good look at the draft, get close (hopefully) to near a full list next year after a disastrous year with unavailabilities and maybe some HOME GAMES next year!?

This is a club widely predicted to finish 16th, 17th or even 18th this year.

There’s no denying the disappointment of the second half last night, I get it, losing sucks and we are used to it by now… I think some of the out of context observations/analysis of the game and some players is way overboard for the third least experienced list in the comp.

I think beating Adelaide and North in the last fortnight have created some real delusions of grandeur.

The reaction, vs a GWS with so many outs, is warranted. Very warranted.

The fact they found so much space and were able to coast to coast so many times, despite the fact we’ve had 19 rounds to get our defense zone sorted, is disgusting

The fact the entire team gets constipated up to their necks in getting even near a goal for a half is a real worry, and a throw back to woosh’s worst games

That our coach brings in underdone shiel, zaka, cutler, when they clearly are not up to standard, huge red flag

Them replacing a player who is proven hard worker and 1%er king, is even bigger red flag

The message Rutten says doesn’t match anywhere near the actions of the players on field, quite the opposite actually.

At this end of the year, looking like we’re going backwards still, is really really not great

Nail…head

Not wanting to single you out and certainly the performance was extremely poor in the second half but there’s no need to pay the guys out by calling them mental midgets or half the other crap I have been seeing posted about the fellas.

People need to be realistic about this year, it has been ■■■■■■■ amazing from what we all thought it was going to be, the kids have come on big time, emergence of AA standard players in Parish, Ridley and Tippa (until recent weeks), improvement in gameplan and structures, improvement everywhere really bar perhaps Smith outside of natural ageing slowing down a couple.

Lastly, reckon we’ve found one in Durham from his early signs, very, very impressed. Big shout out to him.

Where has our repeat inside 50s game gone?

It has deteriorated as the year has gone on?

Has rutten changed the game plan so we sit deeper coz we were getting scored against too easily?

By what measure?

No doubt there have been plenty of positives this year, however last night was extremely disappointing and IMO a big step back.

I don’t rate the Giants one bit and the opportunity to cement a spot in the eight was totally bottled with ease. We’ve got a few blokes who we carry week in and week out who shouldn’t be getting a game and simply go missing when the heat is on.

First time all year it felt like we were being coached by He Who Shall Not Be Named

Can someone start the ‘changes verse Sydney’ thread.

Can’t wait to post:

OUT: Zaharakis and Cutler

Both should never don the sash again

Lots of our supporters have lost perspective what this year was all about and have been caught up in the media shtstorm.

This club last year was a basketcase on and off the field with no identity, sht culture, sht gameplan and players jumping ship left, right and centre. Players like Saad, McKenna and Raz, Joey (when fit) that have been key pillars in the way we’ve played and who we’ve worked our game around for years. You don’t suddenly replace that overnight. What this team has achieved this year has been unreal if you ask me. We’ve had a completely cooked Hooker hold up the forwardline all year with basically a first year player in Jones. Two players that have played forward their whole AFL career turn into defenders in Lav and Stewart. You add to that all the new players that have come in from everywhere in Wright, Cox, Perkins, Hind, Waterman, Durham - the list goes on. Our ruckman has still played under 20 games of football and has been asked to hold up the fort. It’s crazy!

Put up your hand if you thought we’d win 8 games this year at all period and we still got 4 games to play. We need to look at the whole picture to see that this year has been successful and not thinking we blew a chance to make finals because anyone that thinks we were remotely close to play finals has no idea! The list still has holes in it everywhere and we still have lots to work on, in particular the way we defend the ground. A finals team does not allow uncontested marks to be taken from one end of the field to the other without any pressure.
