That’s the concerning thing for me chance to sew up a finals spot and they didn’t look like they cared
Facts are;
Dev and Zakka both kicked goals.
Tippa didn’t.
Think that through a bit.
Why do we always give the oppo a tone of space so they can chip the ball around with ease why aren’t we up in their face where they have to bomb it down the line or rush a disposal?
It’s pathetic defending what ever zone we are using is rubbish
Answered your own question there Nino.
We play a zone defence so a caveat of that is we’re not up in people’s faces.
Then it needs to be scraped stop guarding grass and actually attack the player with the ball
We win when we harass the ball carrier and pick up the turnovers.
We didn’t seem to have that level of energy in this game. Not sure why.
What was our tackle count this game?
Really baffled by the pile on in other threads on the likes of Perkins and Draper. Was it a bad loss? Not really. We’re rebuilding, not expected to make finals. I didn’t even expect us to win 5 games this year. Young sides are generally inconsistent. We’re still performing better than we have been in the last 3 years imo.
We need to stop going the individual based on this game, the team was bad everyone save for 3 or 4.
We didn’t lose because Tippa was bad we lost because as a team we couldn’t stop them dictating the terms of the game.
Selection, Coaches and Players together lost this game.
True the North game was not a once off, again last night too many passengers and our game has stagnated. We were going through the motions last night with no hunger or passion to excel and put the foot down to take the game away from them.
Senior players in Hooker, Zaka and Smith just not up to it. Albeit Smith had good moments but way too inconsistent.
Waterman should definitely be playing getting experience and games into him for next year.
Guelfi I still believe is heading back to Perth but should be playing as not only deserves ahead of Zaka but if he does leave increase whatever trade value he has
Tippa is not involved in the games of late, needed to be more accountable for his lack of efforts, whilst Parish was well tagged more zip in the midfield which is what was needed he could have provided and also been made accountable rather than roaming up forward.
Last night’s game was a true reflection of where the team is at. Haven’t beaten anyone of top shelf and not really beating anyone thereabout fighting for a spot in the 8th.
Next week will be a blood bath against a red hot Sydney even without Buddy. They are playing with heart, passion and still trying for top 4 finish. Rutten has been excellent this season, another challenge now awaits for him, how does he change things up this weekend to get this group who have exceeded expectations to continue to grow and learn and get their mindset refocused on what is still a potential mathematically to play finals.
After a really sh*t night sleep. The anger has worn off…. And I’m totally flat after the performance last night.
It’s not even that I expected to win, or that I think we’ll make the finals…… but I’m honestly very very disappointed in the way we played.
I silently sat and stewed in anger watching our inept second half…… while we suffered a defeat without even a whimper.
I feel like the club caved on its values at the selection table…… for short term success. That really really disappointed me.
Zaka had been playing well in the seconds and needed reward.
He wasn’t the problem(or the solution) to yesterday’s woes.
Yes selection was key, went for senior experience which were not deserving or ready for a game over youth who was better prepared and more deserving.
Zaka is rubbish and has been for years and shouldn’t paly another senior game again.
Great servant wish him all the best
First year of a rebuild. It takes time.
We need more kids.
If Walla is injured he shouldn’t be playing, if minor he didn’t try hard enough.
They wouldn’t play him if injured so I lean to the minor side if he is carrying, so didn’t try enough.
Whitfield is a running machine. Who would we have used to tag him? Cox? Ham? Guelfi would have been perfect…
People will disagree, And that’s fine.
But I’m feeling really flat, because I can’t help but feel we didn’t live up to the values the club set throughout the season…… which got us here in the first place.
I thought we learned from this mistake, which was Worsfold’s undoing and poor culture.
Straight shooter is Mahoney
Not good enough in the contest. Letting them win too easily/ when we won turned it over
Hasn’t been how we have played for the most part for season. Need to get back to pressure/contest work.
Nowhere to hide next week vs Sydney so need to be much much better than have been.
Always knew given young developing side going to have ups and downs over season.
True
I just don’t like how easily we can be stopped and countered
mahoney expects us to play in Qld next week as well
