Weāre clearly still a developing side. However I think itās a good sign to win in a different way. We have usually beaten sides by winning contested possessions and i50s, whereas yesterday was an uncontested possession based game with clearly a different focus.
Iām sure next week we will get back to the contested-ball gamestyle as this seems to work well against Geelong
Heās always playing the negating/pressure role on the oppositionās primary ball mover in the defensive line. And heās been doing a great job at it, whether theyāre small or tall.
Also, I would have said we were playing 2 smalls with Hind there as well.
Judging by the number of players doubled over when the final siren blew, and the lower number of tackles and general pressure in the game, I think we were a bit flat coming back from the bye, which I was expecting.
Hopefully, with one game into our players returning from injury, and having got the game after the bye out of the way, and having worked through the sickness we had in some players in the few weeks leading up to the bye, we will see a return to the intensity we saw in our game earlier in the year.
I think hes tracking for the crows. His mrs was up on level 3 GA for some reason and sat next to us, i asked how hes going and she said so far so good, looking for the crows as of now.
I had a typical Carlton nuff nuff supporter say this to me last week at workā¦
āYou guys are sh*t bro, youāve had an easy drawā
I proceeded to tell him that we went interstate 5 times in our first 12 games.
That adds to the degree of difficulty.
He then tells me he will put $50 on WC because they pushed us last year.
I said youāre throwing your money away.
Ifā¦IF he could have shut his stupid gob for 1 millisecond, I would have advised him to take the line as we seldom smash lower teams.
Good point.
I completely forgot about Hind.
He was almost non-existent.
Maybe there was a bit of flatness off the bye.
But I think the setup just made it look even worse than it did.
Last year out of the bye, we played poorly against Freo. Then played admirably against Port (I actually think that was our best āpatternā of play all year) then the freewheeling Adelaide game before the wheels fell off the remainder of the season.
The next month of footy is going to setup how we finish the season. Fingers crossed itās far better than last year.
not to excuse these numbers, but i donāt remember there being a lot of loose ball in our f50 compared to normal. most entries either they marked it or we did. or we scored.
Remember the press conference after the Carlton game? Scott was asked about forward 50 entries and kicking for goal. He said it could be fixed but you donāt know what result you get out of it.
We saw the result we got from it when we try and fix it (you could argue we went a bit too far with it). A lack of forward pressure and transition by opponents out of our forward line was met with very little resistance.
