Review vs Collingfree

1 umpiring fuck3d us over in the first half.
And I’m sick of umpires paying us frees when we already have the ball they shouldn’t count, there just evening up the stats.

2 de goey killed us in last quarter but was quiet most of match.

3 I think Ambrose injury meant we would run out of legs and we did.

4 Missed shots on goal probably cost us to keep it close/build a buffer.

5 Big Cox has another arsey game.

6 They shut saads run down well and McKenna. I would’ve sent McGrath back to free those guys up.

7 Match selection
Ambrose and the McNiece were poor selections, should have went with Francis and Ridley imo.

8 Happy with long replacement for Fantasia.
Probably pencil win in if Fanta plays, or maybe pies just get more frees🤔

No one to blame but themselves.
Keep saying it but will no doubt continue to have to say it, you cant make thay many bad mistakes and poor decisions and expect to win.

Coyler started the rot midway through the 3rd i think when instead of just running the ball out, trys to slap it back i to play, then goddard, then the dlow on effect.

Again , no one to blame but themselves.

Few thoughts:

  • Thumped in the ruck, particularly the last quarter. TB’s form had to end eventually, let’s hope he can bounce back and get more consistent, wouldn’t surprise me if they rested him this week.

  • Tackling (ignore the umpires for a second) days like this show me how far we are away from the better tackling teams, strength, technique, choosing when to gang tackle, all below league average.

  • Kicking, we are a bottom six field kicking team, with a few major exceptions (Merrett & Saad to name two). So many of our guys are criminally one sided. If you can’t kick both feet, you need to be fast (this is how guys like Crisp & Saad get away with it) and we also lack penetration, even guys like Hurley and Goddard struggle to get their foot through the ball, and the list of guys playing today you would back to kick even 50 meters, is very thin.

And we got the rough end of about two goals worth of umpiring - pies aren’t that good but they have plenty out and will finish top four with their run home.

I don’t think people realise just how much being down a rotation hurts this year with the cap on them. Ambrose was a massive loss early

We just lost by the slimmest of Fantasias today really …

15 years Collingwood has been beating us with the same strategy of running past man on mark for handball receive and for 15 years they’ve been able to rely on our stupidity and laziness for it to work

Also dea out went a long way to losing the game

I hate to say this but we got beaten by a better team today. And the umps made sure of that.

I’m kinda envious of the amount of runners and solid units playing at the pies.

Thank God for Devon, he’s a little beast

Farken ■■■■ of a game, umpires, feral supporters, and I clearly should have looked at the forecast before leaving home & not worn such an excuse of a jacket!

However, I never really felt we were going to win today. They did their homework & didn’t ever really allow us to play our game. Everything, just everything went Collingwoods way.

We had our moments, sure, but we didn’t see the Essendon of the past few weeks, as they had a plan from the start to stop us. Just felt like we were always the ones holding on.

Everything until seasons end should be just about next year.

Sorry ants but they only got one really bad decision - thr de goey mark not paid in the last whereas there were about 15 decisions that should have gone our way that didnt.

cant remember the last time I watched us play that well against good opposition. Disappointing that we couldn’t win, but have seen the making of a very good team. Fk I’m ■■■■■■ off, but we were good.

We looked tired when we needed to keep fighting the most. I reckon they’re about that margin better than us in 2018, not surprised at all. But we had big chances to put a two-three goal buffer on them and never took them.

Forget the umps. The constant kicking to our pockets at the mcg is disgraceful. Works at etihad its a thinner ground

The pies centred the ball consistently and won accordingly

Agreed. Huge improvement since ANZAC Day.

meh

I think we are better team than them, but just missing too many key cattle. I’m firmly of the view our contested side of the game is fine, it’s the clean users we sorely needed today.

There were 8 or so players today that have a line through them for mine. We have the future but they can’t be put on the park. Put Joe, Zaka, Raz, Parish, Gleeson, redman, Ridley and Francis into the team ASAP(unfortunately that’s not till next year for some).

If they are the second best team this year the future is bright for us.

Didn’t think we were that far off TBH.

WTF is Colyer doing in the team, honestly. If Long goes and he stays I’ll riot.

IN: FRANG.

Raz plays, we win. When the game was there to be won we lacked a bit of polish and class. Middle 2 quarters we were very solid, probably should’ve been further ahead, but in the last after that shot Bags missed it was one way traffic. We badly need a clearance specialist who can extract the ball and give it off to our outside runners. That must be the #1 priority in the off-season. Draft, trade, Free Agency. Don’t care how we get them but that’s where we lack most.

PS: That umpiring performance was so bad I thought Margetts was officiating. Seriously the last 3 games we have been crucified. I’d wear it if we were getting smashed and were 2nd to the ball and being sloppy/undisciplined, but that is not the case.

Next week’s game against the GC Suns will be a real test of Essendon’s character.

And the Hurley free directly in front that they goaled from. We got clearly the worse run. But it was pretty ■■■■ for both sides.

Last quarter capitulation sums up this club, we were playing the worst 2nd ladder team in afl/vfl I’ve witnessed and we spunked a 2 goal lead against said team up the wall who were on the ropes with half a side missing.

Yet again we get our pantsed pulled down by Collingwood, yet again another rival at the MCG takes liberties over the Essendon Football Club.

Banter club.

The backs were terrible. Have no confidence in them. Especially one on one
