Review vs Lions R12 2025

We are lucky to have a player who can shut down Cameron.
Charlie kicked a goal but almost worst on ground apart from subs.

we were looking down the barrell at a 100 point loss at quarter time and turned it around.

Cameron kicked 3 goals last week against the hawks- I did say prematch - more worried about a McGrath injury than not having Reid/MCKay/Ridley for Hipwood.

The margin did blow out late, but you were probably being too negative above

Absolutely, he’s been really good in the majority of games. Comprehensively beaten the best small forwards in the game and takes the game on every chance

Lions scoring 73 points from intercepts tells you 4-5 more guys in with more class and some further experience with youth and we will close start closing the gap. Midfield should be Durham, Caldwell and Martin almost full time for me. Parish as rotation with Merrett running through but also being used half back or forward.

Yeah, get rid of the bloke that shut down Cameron, and Hill, and Rioloi and…

Random thoughts:

  • Sad but we don’t need McKay back in the team.
  • I am not sure about Pryor or Perkins either.
  • Guelfi adds some additional forward pressure and will get better I reckon
  • Caddy and Roberts; wonderful game.
  • 2MP kept us in the game as well.
  • Martin is such a clever player, and is slowly taking over Merrets role.
  • We really miss Ridley. He seems to organise the players down back.
  • Just on Parish, I recall last time he was injured and came back and didn’t contribute much. He might need a huge run in the 2s before coming back in.

All the criticism of McGrath and Laverde comes from their poor disposal.
Both are fantastic competitors and good players until they come to kick the ball.
It’s a microcosm of the team.
Were they both always so bad? I don’t think it was a major weakness of McGrath’s in his early years, and Lav was good apart from his goal kicking, which was always terrible.

Hawthorn R1, Collingwood Anzac Day and this game are quite identical. Turn up with zero care and intensity/competitiveness and game was over at quarter time. These are our leaders in the midfield. They probably got told off, and they tried a bit and made a come back but in the end, it was too bigger margin to win the game.

West Coast game was the same for Q1 but because how horrible they are we held on to our dear life to win.

Adelaide and Bulldogs game they brought that Q1 for all of the game.

Make no mistake, we didn’t lose because we had a young team. In fact, they gave a lift, but it was the midfield group’s zero competitiveness during Q1 that cost us.

Shame it’s football we’re playing not European handball then lol, although that was an alltime throw from Martin last night so…

You can’t put it all on Ben McKay, Ridley has been doing it for years.

The problem we have is that when we move the ball quicker we get torched on turnover. Conceded 11 goals on turnover last night.

It’s pretty obvious that the slow ball movement has been designed so the players can set up properly behind the ball and not leak goals on turnover.

Be interesting if the faster ball movement continues or whether we go back to the slow play.

sorry kickett, but on blitz the correct thing to do is base the judgement of an individuals personality and their approach to the sport of australian rules football on a 2 second camera cut at an emotionally hightened part of a game

correct. the kids aren’t the problem.

I always wondered why Martin didn’t get to start in the centre bounce he has all the attributes of an elite centre square mid. Finally we’re seeing it, reminded me a bit of sidearse last night for some reason.

Martin, Caldwell, Durham, Merrett is a really talented and versatile centre square midfield group, we need to go with it more. Get Perkins outta there ffs, butter fingers.

I laughed about that, it was brilliant mark and play on possibly right call just rushed the kick, forgave him quickly.
