We just lost by 90 points & let their most potent ball user freely get 49 disposals. We are in a worst position then when Scott started.

I don’t really have much to say about individual players. You don’t get beaten like that because a handful of guys were awful. The dogs, when they’re on, are the worst team for us to play, and have been for years. Bigger, stronger, more talented players everywhere we think we’re good, and absolutely love to put the foot down when they’re winning.
Subbing off El-Hawli at half time seemed like a ridiculous decision. He wasn’t our best or anything, but subbing off a rookie in his fifth game is no sort of statement at all. Unless there’s footage of him sitting on the wing halfway through the second quarter getting into a 20 pack of McNuggets, I just don’t see how there’s any “non-negotiables” argument that would apply to him that wouldn’t apply to someone with more experience and less excuses.
Minor thing. I thought Laverde was fine, but from what I could see, he spent most of the game on Rhylee West. If we were bringing in a tall defender, no problem with picking him given our injuries. If we were bringing in someone to play on a 182cm small forward, maybe we could have done something a little more future-focused.

Until we actually have a system which can stop teams just rebounding and scoring at will, this will happen against decent teams. I genuinely don’t think Brad Scott knows how to coach that.
Ah well. I think this is just where Essendon is at. Will happen a few more times this season.
