Review vs Suns - 2024 round 22

Ok the day after I slept on it and realised this club has made me hate this sport

They have hit rock bottom and scraping the barrell this club and they officially don’t know how to fix it.

I don’t even think the media will come for them because they aren’t interesting anymore and it’s now fact that they can’t be trusted.

In reality, GC were a ticking time bomb. For a team that has had so many high draft picks and is so chock full of talented players, it was just a matter of when they were going to finally click into gear away from home. Knowing how fragile we are, they would have given themselves a huge chance against us to finally get that win on the road. I’m sure we all could see the result taking shape well out from the siren last night. Point after point after point and then being five points up, down the ball goes their end. Bingo. The mental fragility of so many of our experienced ‘leaders’ beggars belief. They just could not grab the moment and we’ve seen this over and over all year. Gresham, Stringer, Langford to name a few. Mac Andrew played the game brilliantly. Sucked the players into push and shove, started fights, caused angst. Real snarling Hardwick 101. Then he had the ultimate victory when wighing about 50 kg dripping wet, no one could put a body on his in the last contest.
Essington are so talented at engendering ‘disappointment’ and having followed them for many, many years they never let me down in that regard. Is it just a ■■■■■ list or have we recruited the off cuts from other clubs that are mental jelly fish? Maybe a combination of both. Braddles grinned a number of times during his presser last night. I felt like reaching through the screen and slapping him. He and his coaching strategies, team selections, recruiting decisions, fellow coaches continue to break supporters hearts on a weekly basis. A ridiculous emotional rollercoaster. I feel I owe my four kids a very big apology this morning for nurturing a love of this club that continues to wreak emotional havoc on all of us, year in year out, decade after decade. How can we finally break this cycle of constant, fearful disappointment?

I apologised to my daughter for encouraging her to barrack for Essendon and she said “FFS it’s just a game, get over it. Apologise for all the time you waste on your phone when you could be engaging with me instead”… I said that was a good point and I should let Blitz know.

Should be a compulsory read

The flipside to all that is, if they aren’t good enough why do so many continually get picked ?

I think a lot of the angst from the op is that the players may be “working hard” but it’s on the fun things, the enjoyable things, the flashy things.

Not limited to, but look at redman, he will sprint his ass off to go get a possession, he ain’t sprinting to cover his man defensively.
the players “work hard” on what they want too and areas they want too.

at the end of the day, if you subscribe to we aren’t good enough, why is nothing changing to rectify that ?

our backline is putrid atm, yet the plan and by default no one questioning it and saying it doesn’t work, is to constantly have our defenders 15-20 meters away from their opponent, give them easy hit up options, and or when we have the ball and moving it up the field, just have our defenders run forward willy nilly without a care in the world, and let their opponents go and do whatever they want.

something isn’t working, despite being not good enough. and if you have the inner drive that the op was talking about you’d have the leaders of the club both players and coaches saying what’s going on, why isn’t it working, what can we do to improve.
They may be having those discussion, but nothing is changing in the way they play, perform or set up.

at the end of the day, all the effort they can put in to certain aspects of the game, can be solely undone by a few players who aren’t up to it, don’t perform well, or only focus on the fun stuff.
so they are wasting their talent, by not being honest about what’s not working and not doing anything about it in the 2 hours it matters most.

Oh it’s much worse than that. We decide it automatically and sub-consciously.

The thing that ■■■■■ me is that the whole 1.9 crap gives the club a convenient deflection as everyone will focus on it.

The reality is we are playing a bottom team, who hasn’t won away in 18 months, on our home deck with everything on the line and we go into the last quarter down by a kick.

A remotely serious team would not be in that position to begin with.

Agreed. And if we aren’t good enough, why is it that at times we can look good enough? We are psychologically soft because of a now longstanding poor culture. Oh and we could use 2-3 actual A-graders.

Smart girl, but tell her you’re doing the groundwork to publish a book one day about your journey with Bomberblitz and how you’ve been able to negotiate your way through the disturbing irrational exuberance that is bred from 20 years without a Finals win.
When they win a Final you can write up a sequel about the euphoria of success.

It’s far, far easier for me to say as I’ve seen 4 premierships but it’s best to go to the footy with no expectations. Sure you want to see us win but the letdown from a loss is much easier to deal with if you somewhat expect it. At the footy (watching the Bombers) still one of the best places to be……

Why would they when the issue is about conversion of opportunity that arose from the incontrovertible fact the Dons were all over GCS in the last in nearly every part of the game.

Dodoro wouldn’t have picked him even if we had pick 1 that year.
2020 is another super draft year that we once again traded out of because this moronic club had this misguided belief that we were close

Would you prefer we all be the same champions of shitt canning EFC, over everything?

Mods, can we please ban the entire Glorious Gold Coast thread? I’ve just been swearing under my fruit toast at the entire farking GC and Port footy teams yukking it up in Lounge. Fark this for a getaway

He’s gone now- do you want the red carpet ?

Well I guess Richmond had to wait 37 years after the Witch’s father destroyed their club. We’re up to 24…
