Make no mistake. We were the better team for most of the game. We lost one of our better mids in the first few minutes but our midfield still crushed theirs for a large portion of the night.
But they had absolutely everything go their way. They had every bit of luck you could possibly imagine. Every decision, every bounce and they took their chances while we wasted ours. They did not get pinged for a single throw the whole night despite playing a game of ■■■■■■■ rugby. And then they sailed downhill once we ran out of puff under the weight of injuries / sore players.
We didn’t win, and it’s disappointing to give up a margin that was no where near reflective of the game, but I’ve seen enough to know that this is a different team.
There are still some issues. The cupboard is bare. The forward line is slow and patched together. We still make some infuriatingly stupid decisions at time But Truck is building something and it’s really great to see.
I wouldn’t get too despondent over this one.
