Morphett, who began as a cadet with the ABC in Sydney in 1966, died suddenly at the Pakenham property he shared with his wife Karen while watching the Hawthorn-Western Bulldogs game.
Died doing what he loves, watching the sport.

The game/commentary wasnât that bad, was it?
Great caller.
Amazingly, he apparently had no background or knowledge of AFL when he was first appointed to his position as a caller at the ABC. Maybe thatâs what made him so good, no baggage or allegiances.
Also an excellent cricket and Olympic caller. Unassuming, enthusiastic, precise. Everything todayâs callers arenât.
69 is too young. Noonan would be at least double that age.
EFA
One of the best. Believe it or not, he was a good few years older than young Noonan.
Does anybody know what went wrong between him and the ABC ? They didnât renew Drewâs Grandstand contract â made him redundant in 2014 â I gathered he was a bit upset about it; he reckoned Bambi Whately had shafted him and stolen his job.
Another reason to hate that moron Whately black cavâs husband.
Wouldnât doubt it for a second.
For Drew the calling wasnât about him, it was the sport/s he loved so much. For all the deaths of celebrities etc this one upsets me more than most (maybe except John Clarke).
Simple - He got retrenched after ABC cutbacks in their sporting department - It was hardly surprising since he was 66 at the time,
