Robert Shaw #BackIn

What's the fascination with one sided biased commentary? As poor as the basic standard of commentary is, I still don't get the appeal.

because you get tokenistic attempts at unbiased calls.

I’m not sure how introducing one eyed commentary fixes that. I’d rather just listen to someone call the facts of game as they happen, without any obvious sway towards either side.

I think a lack of research and knowledge, endless personal banter, ego stroking and giving jobs to people with a high profile name instead of those with the necessary skills and knowledge is a far bigger blight on modern commentary than any bias that people perceive.

It doesn’t have to be totally biased. I love my ice hockey and watch every Washington Capitals game and can choose between 2 or 3 different feeds. I always choose ours but they are still complimentary towards the opposition and call the game as it should be. They also do a heap of research on the players and during breaks in play they talk about the players careers and stats rather than waffling on about crap

Do you think we'll ever get to the stage where full replays on matches will be broadcasted online but with Essendon people commentating? Similar thing happens in epl

No. AFL wouldn’t want that.

I would probably even choose to watch that little phone sized view if it came with an EFC commentary over the full HD TV version with the muppets commentating.

If we couldn’t do it live, I’d even love it if I could watch the replay with EFC commentary. I watch the replay anyway… add a pro-essendon viewpoint commentary and I’d be delighted.

I cannot express enough how absolute infuriating I find the commercial commentary teams.

I want the most one-eyed ■■■■■■ ever doing that commentary.

edit: 1-eyed is blocked? gagf yankfilter.

Yeah but I’m talking about every game like we get on MUTV.

Surely if the Filth can do a press red for Ed we could do something similar. Didnt the Tuggers also do one with KB and some other pole smokers?

That would be a great thing to do.

I can’t believe we rehired Shaw when Joe still doesn’t have a goal kicking coach #amidoingitright

Bump.

From the ground, to the coaches’ box, to the news desk – essendonfc.com.au will bring you the best analysis and inner sanctum access throughout the Bombers 2017 season.

As Our Comeback Story enters an exciting phase essendonfc.com.au will be able to call on a panel of experts boasting more than 50 years experience in the game and more than 25 years covering the AFL.

Premiership player and two-time Crichton Medal winner Scott Lucas will provide regular analysis through a series of weekly videos for BomberTV and a new podcast.

“I’m there to provide some insights and provide some analysis of the game, discuss who is tracking well and who the team needs some help from if they want to realise their goals this year,” Lucas said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how the team plays.

“With the addition of some younger players last year who got some exposure and some game time … once you mesh that together with the players coming back I think it’s a really exciting year for the Club.

“Against Gold Coast we saw some really exciting signs from the younger players with [Josh] Begley up forward, [Jayden] Laverde, [Darcy] Parish through the midfield and several others really contributing so there is a lot to look forward to this year.”

Lucas will host the weekly podcast alongside Fox Sports News AFL Correspondent Julian de Stoop.

“2017 is set to be a really exciting season both on and off the field for the Club,” de Stoop said.

“I can’t wait to be discuss all the big issues, both good and bad, with Club great Scott Lucas every Friday.

“We will also be having plenty of fun along the way with current and former Essendon players throughout the season and we’d love as much input from the Essendon faithful as possible.”

Life Member and the man behind the 2000 premiership side’s all-conquering midfield, Robert Shaw, will continue to deliver his highly anticipated weekly articles.

Shaw, Lucas and de Stoop join Channel 10 journalist Candice Wyatt as part of the team in 2017.

Wyatt made her debut at last week’s season launch and will continue to bring fans all the news and colour from the Club’s exciting events schedule.

"I’m beyond excited to be working with Essendon this season,” she said.

“Like any passionate Bomber, I’ve watched the developments of the past few years and longed for better times ahead … and now they have arrived.

“The 2017 Comeback Story will be one for the history pages and for me, there’s no better time to get more involved with the Club I love.”

Stay tuned for another exciting announcement regarding a Club Legend joining Our Comeback Story very soon.
