Round 1 2025 Review

Hard to be too unhappy with that effort.

Bit of class and better forward connection and we are a hell of a lot closer. Our contest and stoppage work was very good.

As usual, there were some pretty ordinary contributors.

So how many more years are we gonna get this team right?? Hawks have been ā– ā– ā– ā–  and won finals before we have. Always ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  excuses with this club

Reckon we usually start games pretty well. Probably our biggest 1/4 time margin under Brad apart from the late season disasters in 2023.

in the first game of the year mind you

So, from halfway through the 3rd quarter Essendon were probably the dominant side. We applied all the pressure, tackled our arses off, caused the Hawks to cough up the ball multiple times and received a grand total of 2 free kicks during that period. During that same period, hawthorn were awarded … 10 (23 free kicks for the game and nearly half of them came when they were under the pump and relieved pressure every time.)

which goes to show how pointless relying on that sort of stuff can be.

what’s the point of ā€œcontrolling key metricsā€ if you allow the opposition to kick 4 goals from 7 entries in a quarter ?

how is it any different to last year, when they were doing the same ?

Inside 50 entries were inefficient and shambolic as usual.

Going to be a long year.

As frustrating as it was to watch, that’s about where I thought we’d be.

Hawthorn are an unlikeable, arrogant, yet reasonably good side - especially with the umps throwing in a few for good measure.

We were disadvantaged by the bungled fixture, we looked very scrappy tonight.

We kept fighting, and there are some signs of the supposed attitude shift displayed in the effort.

However, playing a half of footy with only one dedicated small forward, as well as selecting three tall backs to match Hawthorn’s mosquito fleet were certainly questionable match committee decisions.

Fark the comms team

Fark Carlton

It basically cost us the game. This round 0 bullshit has killed us.

Game was lost in the first quarter to go redman into the middle and Durham forward huge mistake.
Then Gresham as sub was a shocker.
The selection committee and coaches must cost us more games than most

I don’t think pathetic. Awful at times. But the skills aren’t there and most are trying

Just looking at silver linings. A lot of us know it’s likely gonna be a bottom 6 type year. We had the youngest side of the comp this week. ā– ā– ā– ā–  like this is gonna happen

Still have to work too hard to get a look at goal, and then switch off and watch the opposition coast in.

Hard watch.

But not that unsurprising. Felt like what would happen to us when under pressure.

We got a lot of good habits.

Just still a few bad ones.

I think the rust is off which is good. Fantastic we have a Marvel home game even if we have got a few multi week injuries.
