And luckily for him, cough ‘social media’ wasn’t around in those days.

He copped enough abuse from people in the ‘outer’ (I was a kid listening to it), but he could at least ‘regroup’ for six days without having to deal with constant talk for every minute of the following week.

It took a few years, but he got there.

If he was starting out now, am not entirely sure he’d survive long enough to ‘get there’.

Good win. Franga were very competitive for a half but fell away badly.
I didn’t see anything much from our young/untried players to inspire. It was a scrambly game without much clean ball movement for the first half, and then when it opened up, we used it better and scored freely.
Best were McKernan, Merrett and Lav.
Langford not bad without really doing a lot.
Clarke the same (kicking was fine - he only tried short kicks and all hit the target).
Guelfi ok without doing a lot.
Redman was almost unsighted to half time, but had a good last half and kicked a very good goal late when we were really dominating.
Draper was good in the ruck contests but didn’t take a mark that I can remember, despite getting his hands on a few I thought he should have held. Smack on the other hand just marks everything at VFL level. His best is really too good for vfl.
Zork is skinny and also ran under a few marks. Played ok without being outstanding.
Ridley in the end got a bit of the ball but I thought he was a bit underwhelming.
Mutch was a bit ordinary at times, but it was his first game for the year so probably to be expected. I keep hearing people on here talking of him being an onballer, but he seems to be a wingman exclusively in the vfl, and he plays it a bit like an old fashioned winger, staying out wide.
Houlihan was pretty quiet.
Lav was outstanding, and got better as the game went on. He stiff armed his way out of congestions twice (a la Stringer) and played in a way that looked like he was closer to being a strong bodied onballer than Langford IMO.
Have I missed anyone?
Sorry if this seems a bit bland after 102pt win, but as I say, I didn’t see anyone pushing up for senior selection except Lav.

So no one pushed for a senior recall in an 102 point win? JEEPERS

McKernan, Merrett and Lav should be viewed as pushing for a senior spot based on that performance. No-one else.

I’m afraid I don’t see it with Cllarke. Maybe, being an in and under mid, I am not noticing him as much as I should, but I don’t see it. Langford fair enough. No better and no worse than he has been doing for a season and a bit - pretty good at VFL level but just mediocre at this stage at AFL. I don’t have any problem in recalling him, but he did nothing this week to suggest he will go any better than he has in his last dozen or so game in the seniors.

I want to maximise the midfield exposure that our AFL-listed players get at the VFL level.

I’m going to go so far as to say that Hocking, Hind, Heppell should never be at a centre bounce. Just go sink-or-swim with the kids at this irrelevant level. Throw Lav, Ridley, Houlahan in there in their place, presuming we are genuine about developing them as midfielders.

What other VFL players take midfield minutes away from our AFL listed players? If we are ruthless as I am proposing?
