Round 12 2026 Non Essendon Games

After round 18 2025 Collingwood were first with 14 wins and 4 losses.

The filth did not have one player under the age of 23 last night. McRae has to be facing a cliff this season, at least Geelong play a few younger blokes .

Oh dear Melbourne

Should’ve played at the G

Giants would’ve won there too, they are coming good.

Current 7th - 10th are all bona fides to take Melb’s 6th position, which we all knew would happen eventually.

Top 5 might be safe from Wildcard Weekend.

Skilton was a 171 cm ball of muscle. They used to call his role Rover. The guy was everywhere, bursting out of packs, like a vacuum cleaner picking up the ground ball. Closest we have now is Lachie Neale imo. AI says the Bont or Cripps, but they are what was called a ruck rover in the 1960s well over 190 cm.

He was more dual sided than Neale, but very similar. He could kick just as well on his left as his right, in a time when it was highly unusual. He carried that Swans team, if people think P Cripps carries FC on his back, they should have seen this guy. He played in a very ordinary Swans team.

Holds the record number of B&Fs at the Swans.
Only Max Papley (edit: grandfather of Tom) upset the sequence.

Max is Tom’s grandfather.

Another of Max’s grandsons, Michael Ross, played two games for Essendon in 2011 while his brother Ben Ross played 18 games with North and Hawthorn.

Thanks for the correction, post now edited.

I’m fairly sure I’ve met Max many moons ago - well before any of his grandkids would have played league footy.

I was very young (9 or 10) so I can’t be certain it was him, but it was at a family friends wedding anniversary party, and those family friends grew up around Williamstown and were both linked to the club in some capacity. He definitely spoke about playing alongside Bobby Skilton, too.

It’s all a long winded way to say if it indeed was Max, he’s an absolute gentleman. He didn’t have to spend time at that party speaking to some random kid about his time in footy, but he did.
