Carlton vs Geelong (Unfortunately one has to win⌠and even more unfortunate it would probably be better for us if it was the Blues)
Port Adelaide vs Brisbane (Lions can definitely travel to Adelaide and beat them)
GWS vs Sydney (Giants arenât getting eithin 4 or 5 goals of Sydney)
Fremantle vs Gold Coast (Loser will be under a lot of pressure)
We just have to get it done against WCE.

Well hopefully we win next week and Carlton lose.
GWS could knock off the swans but really noones bridging that gap.(sydneys on the comp)
Swans may as well torch em so theres more gap on the bottom of the 8.

I maintain that a fit and firing Essendon were the best team in it in 01â. Injuries hit us so hard that year.

That is a big addition, but our main problem against Geelong is psychologically. We owe these â â â â â â the mother of all beatings. Our demolition of the Bulldogs earlier this season gives me confidence that we can carry out the same against Geelong. Fk we owe them a rinsing

Just on the 2001 GF.
Lions were the better side by the time September rolled around.
They were on a huge winning streak.
Doesnât always mean you get the Premiership though.
I do wonder what kind of lead we may have had by the 10min mark of the 3rd qtr with a fit Hird & Mercuri, who clearly should not have played the GF.
Weâll never know.

Not a great day. I was in high school and we had seats on Level 1 in the GSS and it was ridiculously warm for September ⌠and had also been the case the previous week in the Preliminary Final when we just scraped over the line so it really did play into the Lions hands.
Add in a few injuries and probably 2-3 that really shouldnât have even been selected to play that day and it was a recipe for disaster.
At the time though the ârivalryâ really hadnât been too big with Brisbane so they were one of the better sides to lose a GF too if we absolutely had to. The next year it really ramped up.
Brisbane were not the better side coming in to the gf.
They were fortunate we copped injuries to Hird, Mercuri and Long the week prior. No way they win without those injuries.
Fark even if just Hird wasnât injured and we copped the other 2, no way they win.

Itâs what remember most about that day, I met a mate and his dad for brunch in the city late morning and I remember his dad saying we are already beaten due to the heat.
Itâs reasonable to say they were.
Their formline was much better going into Finals.
Donât think they lost in the 2nd half of the year.
We were patchy.
The NM game.
The Swans gave us problems at Docklands and we were lucky Alessio kicked the winner in the last minute.
The Lions also beat us at the GABBA at Rd.7/8-ish.
Again, we will never know if a fit Hird & Mercuri allow us to overwhelme Brisbane with superior experience.
When Vossâ ugly floater went thru from the boundary, I knew the era was over.
