Round 2 - Hawthorn - Discussion, Changes

everytime we play them or a top team, the pressure on the ball carrier gets too much for us.

If we are going to win, we need to stay cool under pressure. It is the reason I am not super-elated and confident after Norf. Their pressure on us was schite. And we already know we are good team when not under intense finals like pressure.

No change this week. Keep Winders on ice for another week.

If he's fit, there is no point him sitting on the sidelines. If they want to ease him in, pick him as the sub. He is well suited to that role anyway.

I just can't see why you would drop anyone from last weeks performance. Winderlich got injured, again, and for mine he does not deserve to come back into a winning side. Winders is a fantastic player, but he is as unreliable as Gumbleton. Prove yourself in the 2's, and when an opportunity arises you can have a spot in our 1's.

Ambrose played well and deserves another game. I'm not sure he's as good as all the hype yet but he held his own and dropping him after 1 game would probably mess with his head, though Im sure he'd bust a gut in the VFL and will be getting another chance sooner or later, he could go alright as the sub too.

The thing about Ambrose is the sheer number of contests he was involved in. He was EVERYWHERE. He didn't win that many, but he was the difference that tipped the odds of those contests in our favour.  And if he can keep getting to that many contests, he will only start winning more and more.

Disagree with putting him sub too. You don't let fitness like that sit on the bench for three quarters.

Out: Jerrett
In: Winderlich
Dempsey and Melkshake back the following week to romp the Blues.

Zerret

Whoops. Yep.

I agree, I dont care he if you can walk on water, if Winders is fit he plays........end of story.

Winderlich's in our top 5.

The much maligned Kyle Hardingham eh.  I've ragged him in the past but watching the replay with a specific focus on him Ambrose and Hooker I thought Hardingham was excellent in many areas.  That's one of the key elements Bomba is looking for, versatility, so he can switch the team around to get strategic advantage at various times.  Ambrose is a certainty for this week to shake up the Hawks back line, there's no way Bomba is gonna drop the "coaches pet" who incidentally delivered 2 of Chapman's goals to him as well as a tap down to Hargingham for one of his.  Hooker won't have to chase Franklin down the wing this time, it will be interesting to see how his new confidence goes against pressure from a top team.  This looming game makes me nervous but we are a strong chance.

I couldn't really see Ambrose all that much watching it on telly, but it's great to hear he was near the ball a lot and doing good things even if he didn't get much of it himself.

I'm on the bandwagon, don't worry about that, but I also think he's a completely different player than Crameri who people are saying he's the new improved version of. 6 tackles is great (equal to Goddard, Howlett & Myers) but like Kommer & Jerret last year he didn't get that much of the pill as he plays the defensive forward role. Can't see him getting close to Crameri's goal tally in that role - then again Crameri probably wouldn't either with Chappy in the team.

The reason I thought he might go okay as the sub is from comments made by Bomber that he's still got a lot to learn about footy, and I think if he's the sub then he can come on and just run flat out and do his own thing and create play when structures have somewhat disintregrated, not as a defensive forward though...

My Hawk mates reflections of the hawks game at aurora were that they were coasting always 3-4 goals + in front then all of a sudden lions caught up in the third quarter and they kicked away in the last think was 8 goals to nil. Said he is a little bit worried about next week, as hawks looked to still be in preseason mode. Also mentioned cheney on Brown, he thought they would have upgraded hatherly a KPD (NZ Rookie) but upgraded wanganeen so I don't think they can do that now. so will be undersized in defence.

They get Rioli back this week though.

Im tempted to throw everything in my betting account on the bombers this week.

last year I think I lost $50 on the hawks game, as I thought we were ready to take the next step, and that loss showed we weren't close to the best team in the comp.

Look, we all know Hardy needs to minimise that aweful clanger kick that he is prone to, which WILL be punished by good sides.

However, based on his performance against North, to suggest that he will be the one that misses for Winderlich (if fit ), is nonsensical, and merely demonstrating a strong bias by those Blitzers saying so.

No way will he be dropped this week with Hawthorns potential for playing Rioli, Breust, Hill, Burgoyne up forward.

Would like to see Winders in the team and don't want Demps until he's fit. Zerrett might have to come out but there will be many hard calls made over the selection table with those that are injured coming back.

The ruck still bothers me. Can we hold it together against the Hawks?

Their back line is a bit suspect so this is the time to play them I suppose.

Hardys unpredictable, not even he knows what he is going to do.

Dangerous.

My take on the comments made by Bomber was more that when he came to the club he had the athletic ability but knew nothing as a footballer. Being such a bright, good kid in only 4 months he has done everything he has been asked by the coaches and already he has got himself a game of footy. i.e. a quick learner. Look out comp we have a good one here, grin, grin. Both Goddard (claims he's the best athlete he has ever seen in football) and Chappy (blown away by his first game) are singing his praises. The spot is his at least until the return of TBC

Is he on the rookie list; what number does he wear ?      And whose spot will he take ?

I agree with some of the sentiments here on Hardingham. He was very lively up forward and showed us his great marking ability. When he went down to the backline he did a good job in the second half. Certainly versatile.
But his disposal at times gets you frustrated. He had three clangers when going for short to medium passes. I think North got three goals from them. He must be able to improve that with hard core practice and dedication.
I remember Stants was a bit like that early on in his career when short passing and I think Myers the same. Watson was very ordinary early on with the foot.
What I am saying if he can improve that aspect of his game he could be a valuable member of the team.

I wasn't buying the North hype last week - I thought we were going to win. I didn't think I'd we'd show so much though.

Last week I thought we were no chance against Hawks. This week? I wouldn't say "strong chance", but I'm pretty much feeling the same.

I just HOPE that whatever 22 is out there this week, that we stay on our man and man up!

I'm so sick of watching Hawthorn games, where they are constantly running free and into position without an opposition player anywhere near them!

I can't believe teams let them do this all the time.

He got crucified and has gone to France to study.
