Round 22 vs Richmond - Changes & Preview

You’re asking too much of Francis.

What do you mean by that?

Sorry, should’ve said.
I’m pleased that he’s getting a run of games but we need to be mindful of what he’s capable of at the moment. He’s just finding his feet and needs support. If he’s given jobs that set him up to fail or above his ‘pay scale’ at the minute it could do more harm than good.
Starting CHB with no Hooker up that end and using him as a possible swing man up forward is asking a lot of him. I’d play him in the backline with plenty of experience around him and tell him that’s the role he’s playing for the next 8 quarters.

If Prestia Cotchin Lambert and Butler are out, we are a real show.

If they win by 6 goals,in the form we have shown over tge last 3mnths.

Good luck rest of comp.

Understandable. I would have Dea on Caddy who’s probably the second best but it does get difficult if Martin goes forward.
If Francis plays forward it’s more a negating/ compete role which I’d think would suit him.

Yeah, I’d give Dea a role there and agree that Riewoldt, Caddy and Martin might stretch us. All about supply.

Just watched the highlights from the 2016 round 2 win over Melbourne.

Of course we can win this week.

Fark richmond.

What do you reckon we should do about Edwards?

The game will be won when we kick more goals and not butcher the in our own back half.
That’s what does all our supporters heads in. We work hard. We get infront. Then someone does a pissy dinky pass which ■■■■■ our backline and they score an easy goal from SFA. Commentators call them heroes and we have mud on our faces.

Have Stringer say "How do you do?

Get Smith to bulldoze him into the turf

…With the umps lifting them up

Umpires are:
#18 Ray Chamberlain
#24 David Harris
#30 Shane McInerney

I am in Dirranbandi. I have checked all of my Dubbo sources and can report I have heard nothing of substance.

However, I never hear anything.

Make of this what you will.

I’m not too upset by that. But happy to be swayed by other people providing examples of how they’ve screwed us previously.

They are gettable certainly. They’ve lost 4 so far this year and had Ablett done what he would’ve done 8 times in 10 and kicked that goal, the Cats would’ve beaten them too.

We have to have our full complement on the bench at the start of the last quarter to have any chance. Our last quarters have been really good this year, but theirs have been brilliant.

They seem to find a ‘reserve tank’.

Apart from their four losses and the recent escape vs the Cats, there were SIX other games this year where their opposition was within 10 points at 3QT only for the Tigers to run away in the last. Have to be within two goals at worst and seize the momentum instantly in the last. But an injury or two and/or going toe-to-toe in the last won’t do it.

I applaud the enthusiasm, but genuinely what makes you think they’re gettable by us?

They are fast, contested ball specialists and one of the best at applying pressure in the midfield and in their attacking 50. They intercept and drive from the back half better than almost any other team.

We’re playing them on the MCG, likely in greasy conditions, and without our two best forwards.

I just can’t see this going any other way than our forward entries being rushed and picked off by their spare in defence, and then them rebounding into a forward press where they’ll lock the ball in until they score.

One of their midfielders will get right off the chain and have 35+ because we don’t tag, and you can bet their plan will be to smash into our running mids and half backs as hard as they can early to slow them down.

Hate to be a gloomer, but I think the Dreamtime, Pies and Hawks games offer a pretty good template of how this one will go.

They only way I see it changing is if we can somehow keep right with them until 3QT, and then back our fitness to be better than theirs (I think it is) and scratch out a win in the 4th the way the Cats almost did.

Completely agree.
However, i disagree with your last paragraph.
The only possible way we can beat richmond is if we do something completely different with our gameplan -
We play a way purely to beat the opposition instead of backing our own game plan in to beat theirs (because that doesn’t work against richmond).
only way to beat richmond imo:

  1. Man up their spare back (DOn’t let rance , vlaustin etc zone off)
  2. Win the clearances
  3. Send high chaos balls into the forward 50 and create a contest/keep it in there

However, knowing woosha, he will back his own gameplan in to beat richmond which will mean we will see something similar to dreamtime/preseason unfortunately.
