Interestingly, we have played 4 of the current Top 8 sides:
Bulldogs (1st)
Kangaroos (5th)
Hawks (6th)
Port Power (8th)
So, Scott’s supposed “game plan” (maniacal desire to handball) wasn’t really not about “better execution” by the players but more about the better sides in the comp exposing how poor the handball at all costs based game plan really - Giants tried it against the Pies and were soundly beaten.
Once we changed game plan (kick-mark and hour a player in space) 10-15 minutes into Q2 we looked a totally different team, players looked more confident, we controlled the game’s tempo and. that occurred around the time the Bulldogs kicked their 2nd goal in Q2. The scoreboard read Bulldogs led 9.2 to 1.4.
We then proceeded to outscore the Bulldogs 8.11 to 5.13 (with both sides missing gettable shots); a 16 point advantage to us.
Hopefully, Scott has learnt his lesson about his preferred, and utterly failed, “game plan”.
A lot of that ladder will be attributed to who those teams have played. Hawks and Dogs, sure, top 8 certainties.
Kangaroos and Power have played Essendon, WC, Carlton and Port, and North, Essendon, West Coast and Richmond, respectively. Ie they have played garbage teams so far but will end up bottom 6 sides.
