Rule changes and our list strategy

I’m against the zone idea but also find it funny that people that are so opposed to it long for the glory days of football with stay at home full forwards.

We had zones in the 80s and 90s - they were just enforced by lack of fitness and lack of tactical nous by the coaches, not by the rules!

Of course that’s what they’re trying to do, but it hasn’t worked. The defensiveness and indirectness have got worse, not better.

been saying for years, the more they try and change/fix things and recreate an era where there were no tactics, gameplans, defensive minded approach is pointless, as the only way you will solve the problem is bastardising the whole game just to suit an ideal from way back when.

non of the rules they’ve implemented have worked, because the defensive setups/actions are too powerful a tool to just abandon, esp teams that aren’t as skilled/good.

the 666 rule only gave teams a 10 ish second advantage and potential to score.
lowering interchanges hasn’t reduced teams zoning the defensive end.

now the lower leagues having to implement a 3 players in the fwd/def half at every stoppage, all that’ll do is bugger the 2 smaller forwards who still run up the ground to get involved around the play, as they’ll have to run all the way back to the fwd 50.
But the lower league players won’t have that fitness,so they’ll get their arbitrary proof that it worked there, so it’ll translate into higher scoring in the afl.

All their medalling does is stifle actual coaches ability to develop new methods of counteracting the defensive tactics teams come up with, as they are always having to deal with trying to implement them with said new changes, and all that ends up happening is the teams at the top stay there (lions, cats, hawks, tigers have all now had dynastys) mostly because the AFL want to again make the game more pretty, yet end up screwing it over the most.

I hope they don’t drop Clarke to the VFL to exploit this.

How many rule changes has the AFL made since the eighties. It must be a hell of a lot by now. Anyone know exactly?
