Just saw this post from a good friend in England on my FB page.
1.00pm at Abington School
The on-going conflict in Ukraine creates continuing hardship for those displaced and affected by the war. The current need is for good warm clothing and thermal garments, blankets, duvets and sleeping bags, towels, sheets and bedding items, toiletries and cleaning materials, medical supplies (bandages and plasters) and activity games for children. Please gift items on Saturday 14th January at Abington Primary School car park from 9.00am until 1.00pm. A Rotary van will be on the playground in the High St and Tony Collett will be on-hand to take items from cars. Donations to assist in transportation costs are also gratefully accepted and these can also be made at the collection point in cash or by credit card on the day. Tony is happy to collect items, if you cannot bring them on the 14th. Jeremiah’s Café at the institute will also be open from 10.00 am serving warm drinks.
This is happening in a small community in Cambridge. It has me thinking that perhaps we at BBlitz should also do something to assist the people of Ukraine. Thoughts?
Pardon my ignorance, but is Erdogan playing both sides publicly at the moment? I’m wondering if he wants to side with Putin but thinks his people want to side with Ukraine.
Am I way off the mark? (I often am!)
I’m supportive, but it would need to be completely non-lethal aid. There’s an Aussie donating ambulances in Ukraine, which I think would be a great fit. Collecting physical stuff to send is problematic without contacts to get it into country.
The unprecedented level of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine is draining the budgets of the UN specialised agencies and NGOs such as the Red Cross and World Vision.
Donations made through those agencies in Australia would be tax deductible.
The UN is coordinating humanitarian aid within Ukraine and for refugees in Europe.
There could be Ukraine NGO agencies in Australia providing assistance to refugees here and in Ukraine.
I would be wary of individuals engaged in self promotion
Erdogan publicly is using the situation to boost Turkey’s profile/power. He wants to be seen as the one that can negotiate with both sides and be a mediator.
Privately Russia’s waning power makes a vaccuum and I suspect Erdogan/Turkey see great opportunity for themselves there.

Yes!
My impression from other posts here is that the extremely high current infantry losses would be more relevant than artillery pieces. They have lots of artillery in storage but are having trouble delivering sufficient shells to the front (eg due to attacks on storage).
