There’s a difference between a helicopter that was maintained and stored well vs a tank that was left outside for 30 years, had the electronics stolen and maintenance budget used to renovate an officer’s house.
As an aside, this reminds me that the B-52 will be flying for over 100 years by the time the airframes hit their planned retirement date.

B-52 has also been getting relatively frequent engine (+ electronics) iterations over the years

Still plenty of commercial aircraft out there that are 30-40 years old fldoing dozens of weekly flights and passengers wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. As long as the maintenance schedules are adhered to they’re fine

Pretty amazing that in 2021 they are upgrading the engines on 60+ year old aircraft.

Earlier stuff struck me as the sort of platitudes that come from people who “stay in their lane”, complete with the air of superior wisdom for doing so that we are so familiar with here.
But in openly denouncing Australia’s “strategic bystanding” as well as exposing the nonsense about Abrams tanks from his personal knowledge and expertize, he is actually contributing something useful - precisely by NOT staying in his lane.
Naturally people who approve of staying in one’s lane will sneer at it and attribute some cynical motive rather than straightforwardly expressing their own views.
Russia has far too many people that stay in their lane. It is common here too but at least such people can only undermine those who don’t stay in their lane by childish sneering rather than being able to simply get them locked up.

I don’t recall the sauce, but there was something I saw (probably here) that offered an explanation of why Ukraine is still pushing for it.
Almost any “issue with brakes” requires thorough resolution before any vehicles are let loose on public roads in peace time. But for carrying troops across battlefields under fire, some issues with brakes can just be an additional item to train the drivers to expect and be able to deal with, among many more important issues about how to avoid getting blown up.
There was something about Ukraine suggesting that letting them have the vehicles now would also provide valuable data for manufacturers resolving the problem.
They should simply get the tanks, aircraft, vehicles etc that they ask for.
People who stay in their lane have special training in finding reasons not to do things and love to demonstrate their skills.

There has also been official concern at pics on social media of the debris of Russian missiles downed in Ukraine. Apparently, Russia could use them to site the range where they were intercepted.
