Russia invades Ukraine - 4 - from 14 March 2023

Yep. Russia really doesn’t have much in the way of guided bombs or missiles. They can probably do a reasonable dumb bomb drop if they’ve got a 30 second window to line up the target. But flicking over at tree top height, you would just be smashing the release button as soon as you were vaguely near the target.

It can be done accurately, but requires an immense amount of skill.

Skill and practice, things those pilots lack.

Ukraine looks to have seriously damaged a Russian warship. US surveillance watching the drifting ship closely.

Yeah there has been videos of the drone boat hitting rear

That’s the first I have seen of ship actually on fire though

Meanwhile Russia initially had claimed it had destroyed the 3 drones attacking the ship

Lieing? Surely not!

Russians never do this.

I saw a Russian sourced vid last might of the destruction of a drone boat, all over twitter, , smoke and flames, which some have claimed is old footage .
I couldn’t find the Ivan Khurs on the Black Sea ship tracker but so many have their GPS turned off.
Given the estimated distance of the Ivan Khurs from Ukraine (400km) would it be possible to reach the ship from a Ukraine launch? It has been previously acknowledged that some have reached Sevastopol ( the ship has occasionally been near Sevastopol) .
There haven’t been any claims of a launch from Bulgaria or Romania.
Whatever the truth, it does not bode well for the movement of Ukraine grain cargo ships, which are still being impeded for purported inspection or registration reasons.
The ship is supposed to be protecting two Russian pipelines, one connected to Turkey.

Technically they did destroy the drone by crashing the warship into it.

The footage of the drone destruction was in the tweet thread I posted earlier. First post was the drone footage hitting the RU boat, second one showed the RU destruction of another drone. So they did certainly blow up at least one. As Benny said, they blew another one up with the side of their boat

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-05-26/netherlands-likely-to-send-f-16s-to-ukraine-after-pilot-training

26 May 2023 at 7:13 pm AEST

The Netherlands will likely send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine after pilot training, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The Dutch government has been spearheading discussions with US officials in the past weeks to press President Joe Biden’s administration to give a green light to delivering the aircraft, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity. After months of pressure from Kyiv and allied governments, Biden announced last week that the US would support efforts to train Ukrainian pilots to use the jets.

The Netherlands and Denmark are leading the coalition to prepare the pilots, with the support of the UK and Belgium. The Dutch government is already looking into and discussing with its allies possible deployment plans, one of the people said. Despite the willingness of the Dutch government to help beef up Ukrainian air defenses “as soon as possible,” pilot training and mapping out deployment and logistics could take many months.

Canada is donating 43 AIM-9 air to air missiles. I’m not sure what would fire them.

I got a free subscription to a language app and I’ve been learning Russian the past month. Ukrainian wasn’t an option and I wanted to learnt the Cyrillic alphabet, plus I know a bit of SerboCroat though it turns out it’s only a minor head start (particularly given I know so little).
In any case it’s been good to read/understand the Ukrainian town names, and I could read that garage door above it’s a good brain exercise, even though I feel like I’m learning the language of the bad guys.
Also the last thing a want to do is talk to Russians, I’ve worked with some Russians and haven’t wanted to speak with them the past year at all, I fear I’d lose my temper if they were pro war and I don’t want to go there.
