Russia invades Ukraine - 5 - from 2 October 2023

Lol. I thought it was a decent analysis by Ryan of the russian army’s leadership and discipline issues by utilizing the russian army Trash issue. Just as we have seen in previous posts before where the graffiti left on ammo crates in overrun positions tell us a lot about russian morale and mental outlook. Their trash also makes their active positions easy to spot by drone.

Russian trash. Are they talking about the latest penal regiment or regular garbage?

Not enough love for “he blew up before catching on fire”. Fantastic line and representation of the life of a mobik with no medical supplies.

Side note, we havent heard much from the potatofurhrer lately, what is he up to with Steven Segal? Also that has to be the best nickname to come out of this war.

Punt guns pack a punch

Yes, another mystery. Since Prigozhin died he has been unusually quiet. Anybody heard anything from him lately?

I’m a layman who has never previously followed the progress of a war beyond the TV news, but I now rarely miss a day of this thread and am in awe of the knowledge on display. I read and rarely comment. Im sure there are others like me.

I feel like there should be a mini amnesty to allow dumb questions.

One of my curiosities is regarding the use of fighter jets and bombers. I rarely see them mentioned. I presume that must be due to air defence systems being so sophisticated and effective?

I had assumed that during crucial pushes that enemy defense lines would be bombed and attacked by aircraft.

If they cant be then what use are they? And why is it a celebrated when Ukraine get donated aircraft?

FLASHBACK - March 2022
An excellent thread posted early on in the war. Great reading for some retrospection.

Yes that line was good, I actually read it out aloud a couple of times.

Another good one I heard today that could also be applied to the Russian army was “they just get up every morning and step on rakes till bedtime”.

Awesome. All i can picture for both of these is either homer simpson or peter griffin. Sounds like a perfect sketch for family guy

I believe it was early last week that Russia air defense shot down one of its own su25 fighter jets. So not only is ukr having a fair bit of joy ahooting them down, but they also enjoy rus taking them out. Ukr use of manpads/javelins has done a lot to keep the fighters at bay.

Long range ru bombers are still doing dage though. Lack of missles is hindering them now as well though

No such thing as a dumb question, Dodga. Funny you asked this question - I saw a tweet touching on this topic recently by twitterer Jabuttee but he gets pretty salty so I didn’t repost it. Also, I can’t speak to the veracity of his numbers or his assertions (there are plenty of videos of russian 500lb glide bombs hitting nothing but the middle of fields). Here it is in its entirety:

That said, I think Jabuttee has been a bit depressed lately. He also posted this afterwards:

Why do I believe the AFU will win this war, no matter how long or painful it is?
Because they have the reasons to.
