Gone a bit quiet on here the last few days so I thought I’d ask a question as an ordinary bloke in the street.
Do you think the advance on Kursk was a mistake?
Would Ukraine been better off consolidated it’s forces instead of ‘poking the bear’ so to speak?.
Obviously I’m no expert in any of this but going by reports now it looks a bit bleak. Especially if the Russians are waiting and longing for Trump to return.
My opinion formed after a ridiculous amount of reading and time is…
Maybe?
I’ll have a go and say no, the Kursk offensive was not a mistake.
1.For all the tightening of the defensive lines on home soil, this gives Ukraine a bargaining chip in negotiations they would not otherwise have, something to “swap”.
2. It shows up Russia’s inability to defend its borders, increasing pressure on Putin (see recent dragon’s teeth problems). This is further emphasised by the humane treatment Russian civlians receive from Ukrainain troops.
3. It puts paid to another “don’t cross that red line” bluff.
1 is the main reason- now when Moscow says everyone must respect the realities on the ground, VZ can say “right, so we’ll keep this flag in Kursk then?”
someone needs to community note the pope
I think you mean ‘No’, UU
They should.
ADD: Lol. I just started reading the comments to his tweet and NAFO are going to town on the pope.
The Pope who appointed the leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Australia as a Cardinal to represent all Australian Catholics.
This post is the ultimate “nothing burger”. Someone commented… could you be any more vague?
Read it for yourself, towards the end of the report.
The Kursk incursion was also good publicity. All the news was reporting on Ukraine being gradually ground down, the incursion into Kursk exposed Russia to be weak.
I think hindsight will judge that it was the right move, but there’s plenty to play out.
Note that probably Ukraine gained more territory than Russia has in six months with that move
Agree with all of those reasons.
Plus, it showed that UA wasn’t going to meekly accept the unrelenting pressure without striking a blow back. A blow that caught RU off guard and surprised them.
True- the operational secrecy was very impressive, also showed Ukraine can act independently of the West.
Francis is not young- this leaves open the (now a little less remote) prospect of a Ukrainian Greek Catholic being the next Pope.
So? Why, for this whole war, has he never called out russia? It is more than a bit suspicious…
