Some made it to Australia, the post war battles in Melbourne between the radical and entrepreneurial Greeks. It could explain why so many ethnic Greeks are represented in Victorian politics at all levels.

In Hollywood propaganda the Ewoks are portrayed as the good guys, some heroic furry resistance fighters. In the flip-side narrative they are insurrectionist terrorists waging an illegal rebellion against the proper authorities. Also, Luke committed war crimes.

As to the thaw in the Cold War, it was Nixon who ran with Detente with the Sovs, as with China.While persisting with the Domino theory in Vietnam ( when the USSR wasn’t the bad guy, the split between the Maoists and the Kremlin).
The historians have run with the narrative that the US economy had been badly impacted by the Vietnam War, why Johnston couldn’t deliver on the Great Society. The Soviet economy was also in bad shape from overspending on the military. Nixon saw his opening, Kissinger on foreign policy, Milton Freedman the star on the economy, the Chicago boys trained in University economic policy.

I well remember that invasion. l was on high school exchange in Adelaide at the time. The front page of all the papers showed pictures of Russian tanks rolling down the streets of Prague. It comes as no surprise that some of those same tanks are now being taken out of mothballs for the SMO.

According to Putin, Russia is holding over 6 thousand Ukraine POWs, compared to a little over 1k Russian POWs held in Ukraine. The number of Russian conscripts captured in Kursk has not been revealed ( but the families back home would know).
