I can’t believe the USA has sided with Russia. I can’t believe Hungary is in NATO. I can’t believe Kokkinakis took the money to play in Russia while some Aussies are dying there because they want to help Ukraine.
If this isn’t a wake up call for the western world I don’t know what is. We have sat back in the belief the US will save us all. Until now.
If we don’t learn from this we deserve what we get. Time will tell, but we don’t have a good record of learning from mistakes.
I’m no expert, but for me there are a few logical points that come to mind. Firstly there needs to be a suitable country to actually host the meetings. Zelenskyy isn’t going to travel to RU and Putin isn’t visiting UA.
And kind of like how a therapist will help with counselling, the mediating country should be able to pass back and forth to facilitate requests, feedback on proposals, etc. as well as propose the arrangements that might suit both parties. There’s so much hatred between UA and RU that they couldn’t possibly have a rational discussion.
And the particular thing here is that the USA is such a large component of the military supply that they are currently hanging a lot of threats over UA to force them to accept a shiitty deal, since they know that Putin will concede almost nothing.

I guess when two countries are at war, there may need to be a meditator as direct discussion could be a bit tense. Involving the largest power in the world, with the biggest army, and a history of using it, would seem a good move. Though it may have been better to use a peace broker who actually wants peace.
