Please don’t use dating aps, but young men, your services are urgently required in Russia… Stand up and be counted as you do your bit for Mother Russia.

Russia, which is in a demographic crisis, wants people to stop using dating apps in Kursk and other regions

  • Russia has warned against using dating apps in border regions amid Ukraine’s incursion.
  • Russian authorities cite security concerns, claiming that Ukraine uses apps to gather intelligence.
  • Russia faces a demographic crisis, with its population potentially halving by the end of the century.

Russia has a population crisis, but it is not keen on the use of dating apps in certain regions.

On Tuesday, Russia’s interior ministry urged people in the border regions of Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod not to use dating apps amid Kyiv’s incursion into Russian territory.

“The use of online dating services is strongly discouraged. The enemy is actively using them to gather information,” according to a memo issued by Russia’s internal affairs ministry, Interfax news agency reported, according to a Moscow Times translation.

Homegrown apps have taken over Russia’s online dating market after Western dating apps Tinder, Bumble, and Badoo exited the market.

On Tuesday, Russian authorities also advised residents of the border regions not to use security cameras and not to stream videos on roads where military vehicles are present.

“The enemy is identifying IP address ranges in our territories, remotely accessing unprotected security cameras, monitoring everything from private yards to strategic roads and highways,” said Russia’s interior ministry.

The warnings came after Ukraine launched a surprise invasion into Russia’s Kursk region on August 6. On Tuesday, Ukraine’s military leadership said its forces have captured more Russian territory than what Moscow’s forces have seized in Ukraine since the start of 2024.

Russia’s population could halve by the end of this century

Russia’s demographic crisis is so dire that the country’s population could halve by the end of the century, according to a report from the Atlantic Council earlier this month.

Russia was in a demographic crisis even before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Over 300,000 Russian troops died or were injured in the Ukraine war by the end of 2023, US intelligence officials estimated. An estimated 1 million people fled Russia after the war broke out, deepening a brain drain and labor crunch in the country.

Overall, Russia’s population growth has declined over the past decade, World Bank data shows.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is paying special attention to demographic issues.

In November, he extolled the virtues of large families, calling on women to have eight children —or more.

Earlier this year, Putin called on Russians to have more babies for ethnic survival.

Right I don’t care if there are communists in the countries next to me it’s the totalitarianism that would make me worry they’d want to take over Australia. And tbh I wouldn’t want to live in a communist state. Being allocated a job that didn’t suit and not being motivated to improve things would suck.

Reminds me of Slugworth from Willy Wonka.

I would argue that in its purist form that communism is the most viable economic and political system.

Due to human nature, in that most people are selfish turds, then it is not possible.

Just a logical point:
If something is not possible then (by definition) in no way can it be viable. Also, as of now it has not yet existed, so saying communism is the most viable system is the same as saying Unicorns are the most viable horses.

I can believe it. They had double that in the rise of the price of eggs last year. I keep saying the real inflation rate in Australia is more like 20% but nobody seems to believe it even though they are paying it. Strange.

So in essence…

A system that was designed for the governance of humans is completely incompatible with said humans

Edit;

Mind you, pure capitalism appears incompatible with the long term survivability of the species so I suppose you pick your poison

He also argues, quite convincingly, that Ukraine NATO membership should be fast-tracked and that it should be allowed even if Ukraine still has an outstanding territorial dispute with russia, giving the example that the same was done for West Germany.

l predicted such a move a few days ago. My thinking was based on what RU expected, a move on Crimea. Instead UA hits them in another area where they weren’t expected, just like the dreaded Spanish Inquisition. It makes logical tactical sense. Crimea can wait for now, even though it is still the jewel in the UA crown as far as targets go.

In my view absolutely.

Karl Marx was a philosopher, political theorist, economist, historian, sociologist, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. He came from a wealthy German family and thought very highly of himself. Das Kapital was his analysis of capitalism and the culmination of his intellectual endeavours. Not sure though, in all that I read that he really understood the character of the proletariat.

A long time ago, I studied European history and was captivated by the Paris Commune and its attempt at anarchy, which is possibly the best and simplest political system. It failed as human nature took over and when one person wants more than another there can be no selflessness.

If you look at the Russian and Ukrainian societies, they have had a mixture political systems and none have been fair or just. The US Bill of Rights is a fine document, but out of place in any democracy as majority rule is sometimes at odds with civil and social rights.

When you break it all done, most wars are about a bloke like Putin wanting his own way, and the political system has nothing to do with it.
