Worth reading

Also reminds me of Collingwood mid-2000s.
Martyn Girvan had been the weights/strength coach under Buttifant from 2005 until Buttifant resigned at the end of 2013. Was well respected by Bucks and the players, and iirc hadn’t had any massive runs with injuries.
Bill Davoren comes in from St Kilda with the backing of the board, takes the reigns on basically everything (including weights and rehab) and they have a disastrous run with injuries in 2014 yet it’s Girvan that ends up leaving at the end of the year not Davoren.

As someone else pointed out, if we are still paying out any of those contracts, then that’s on the club for their poor management.

however keeping an unqualified person in a job, cos you are paying for other mistakes already, ain’t a real great strategy.
considering it’s fitness, like one of the core functions of the sport, and this guy is absolutely ■■■■■■■ up more and potentially damaging players beyond repair with an improper skill set to handle the situation, it’s ultimately going to be costing you more.

The players aren’t fitter, aren’t stronger, and are breaking down, but we shouldn’t sake him, well because others were sacked too and they need to be paid out or have been paid out.

■■■■ off from the club please

Sean Murphy has done an excellent job.

He’s forced this club to rebuild. The club refuses to trade or delist players… so it’s actually really nice that its now embracing debutants and playing kids because it’s forced to.

I hope Murphy stays for a few more years to see out this rebuild.

This chip chip keepings off style is too much for our players bodies to handle

Buttifant/Girvan didn’t have complete control at the end.
Year after their flag, they had more injuries than previously, and were overruled by non sport-science hierarchy about the program they could run (despite the success the same program had on both injuries/performance the years before)

Yep. Can recall many a Marty rant about it at the gym :joy:
They (Collingwood) also cracked it at him because a player (re)injured their hamstring on the inverse hamstring curl machine he got for the club - except it was under supervision from a physio and they didn’t bother to ask Marty how to use it. Physio ended up increasing the resistance by mistake instead of decreasing it!

A mate who is in the strength and conditioning game and also happens to be mates with Brad reckons big changes are coming our way at the end of the season. I’m crossing my fingers and holding my breathe but I’m hoping this is true and we finally get this issue sorted.
