2020 Brisbane were the best in the comp with injuries.
Melbourne poached Selwyn Griffith.
Then 2021 Melbourne had a great run with injuries (and a flag), and Brisbane did not.
Sorry, the EFC years of mediocrity dragging on are ruining my perception of time. Thought the above was more recent.
ā¦
Also, donāt know why we must poach someone from within AFL. There would be a tonne in the US. Maybe the pay is not enough?
Firstly, there is a pay issue. We are professional for an Australian sport but the level for US sport is a tad different. I think all sporting competitions feed off volunteer work though.
There is more of a lean towards data driven performance in US sports. It is with us, but again, the level of information isnāt the same.
I know one āsports scientistā who was at Carlton. Then left got a job in USA, then tried to get one back here and got nowhere. So stayed in USA and found work there.
Also, we do play quite a unique sport. We play a sport that needs strength and speed. Iād think the closest to it would be a wide receiver in NFL. And itās done to 18 year olds straight out of high school. US sport at least do 1 year in college after high school and unless they are absolutely amazing physically, they spend a year or two getting used to their new body.
I think just getting used to the unique sport we play would take quite some time to begin with.
Interesting.
He is head physiology at Melbourne. He was head of medical services at Brisbane. Was Head Physiuo with us in 2016 (the year of the banned players).
I was under the impression he was from more of a Head of Strength & Conditioning role at Brisbane.
This would not take long at all, for a good, high performance manager.
It is the exact nature of their role to understand the demands of the sport, and condition accordingly.
If it did take them a long time. They wouldnāt be the right person.
No idea.
Tracking physios moving from club to club is way tougher than tracking Head of S&Cās.
Iād say physioās move around a lot more than managers.
