This story re roos being all in on clako and in the box seat is very much in the same ballpark as my interest in scarjo. Until I hear back it’s tending more towards being possible rather than probable.

North only has one top pick this year. If I was them I’d get some more older bodies with upside who would be dirt cheap. Add
- Francis (backline)
- Setterfield
- Nathan Wilson
- James Stewart
Would give them some more mature bodies who would be dirt cheap. Several of them get on 1-2 year contracts.

Agree with that.
When you finish last on the ladder you get the #1 pick, and the remainder of your draft picks are behind the premiers draft picks.
Sure, you should get a really good player with that #1 pick, but it isn’t a path to premierships. See Carlton FC.
A few attempts at getting Peter Wright type players are a good idea for them.

To be fair, a ‘Peter Wright type player’ means a deal in which you get a Coleman top 10 forward in exchange for a minor downgrade of your 3rd round draft pick. That’s the sort of ludicrously successful deal that list managers have sweaty, sticky dreams about every night, and spend every day of their careers trying to orchestrate. Most deals involving a late round pick for a fringe player end up more like Cutler type deals, basically a nil-all draw.

The afl should be telling North to get lost on the priority pick request.
Afl should be saying they have pick 1 in 2022 and likely top 5 in 2023. They could absolutely turn those 2 picks into 4 first rounders with at least 2 of them still being top 10 selections. All they need to do is trade more professionally than they have been. But instead they go the charity route.

The disappointment from all involved at North if Clarkson decides to go elsewhere (very, very possible) is going to be absolutely delicious.
Could you imagine if we wheeled out Tim Watson to go and have a chat with someone we wanted because nothing else was working, how embarrassing that would be.
No disrespect to Timmy, but I’d feel pretty embarrassed if an entire club had to rely purely on one celebrity to make all the difference.

I reckon there is a good chance that Adelaide, West Coast, Richmond and Essendon are looking for a new coach at the end of next year.
Wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Clarkson sits out another year given what opportunities may become available.

I don’t think Nicks is safe at all, pressure will be on next year. He is contracted until 2024 I see, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is moved.

I thought he would be under pressure next year but @Aceman is saying he is already under pressure now and may not even survive the end of the playing year.
That’s what I thought too. He has a good list he probably should be getting more out of. Every club in the window only has a limited amount of time left.
