Powell and Riak Andrew got 5. Jack Graham got 4 because he '“self reported”. Five is the standard now and there’s no way they can minimise it.

Needs to be zero tolerance and 4-5 seems fair of proven guilty.
The player he has allegedly aimed the slur at isn’t the one I would have thought though

If it’s proven he said it then it has to be 4 or 5 weeks. It’s not an offense that can be graded.

Remember July last year when Adelaide came out strongly to defend Rankine who was the victim of a “disgusting racial slur”. Let’s see how disgusted they are now that he is the (alleged) offender

I look forward to reading and hearing the response of Pie ferals in coming days to the alleged Rankine homophobic comments.
Several instances (some I’ve encountered firsthand) in the past of them using similar derogatory slurs against this section of our community.
And one of their premiership rivals best players may miss several important weeks/finals.
The double standards will be fascinating…

Swann started in his role a couple of weeks after the Jack Graham suspension, didn’t he? It’s not hard to envision he just ignores the precedent and Rankine gets eight weeks but with six suspended or something, new policy, etc, remorseful, etc. Even gives you room to “listen to feedback” and enforce the remainder at the start of next season.
Or Rankine just gets suspended of course.

Going to be really interesting this, if true the precedent is 5 (Graham got 4 for apparently self reporting) so his season would be done. Can see the AFL scrambling for ways to try and get him off this/reduce suspension

Apparently 3 racial/homophobic slur cases this year. 1 in VFL (got 6 weeks), 2 in AFL which was 4 and 5 weeks respectively, 4 was also self reported!). So this will be interesting. Should nearly be season over.
BUT finals time the tribunal seems to become very lenient towards any players involved. I think there will also be a few other factors here I won’t start debating, but the way they handled the Willy Rioli stuff was nothing short of a disaster….
