Season 2025 - Geelong

Some of the third party deals involve things like media commitments, player meet and greets etc

Didn’t we get fined a couple of years back for players doing extra radio spots or player gigs or am I just imagining that?

I can’t remember. Only remember the hird / Lloyd website domain thing.

But its also interesting what headline the AFL site has gone with.

This is what I was ranting about last week. We should stop towing the AFL line or agenda. Put together the prospect of a new competition that doesn’t include the Essendon football club.

Like LIV golf or something

Does a model like that even work for a sport where only a single country has any interest in it?

I’d have thought that model only works for sports where there is an international interest. FWIW, I’d be all for the AFL going bust, so it’d be great if there was a model that could make it happen.

What’s to stop a rich club president from paying the head coach millions per year through their business, and have the club pay them only $1 per season. Is that against the rules?

Nobody will Cotton On to that idea.

Still any update why Jeremy Cameron didn’t come off for a head injury assessment after having it nearly knocked off by Dangerfield?

The official word out of the AFL was because he hit Danger with his head there was nothing to see. Absolutely no chance the golden boy’s hip made of cotton on could have concussed a teammate.

Theoretically, payments to the head coach outside of their AFL salary that the AFL deem to be relevant (“marketing services” payments from club partners or other people/businesses associated with the club) are capped at $100k.

I think you’re under-rating them announcing this immediately after ANNOUNCING that big daddy Government needs to give them TWO BILLION DOLLARINOS to add 5000 seats at the MCG.

Any truth to the rumour Cotton On signed a new brand ambassador this week? Apparently his name is Charlie Curnow

They don’t need to do that.

Geelong already frequently the Curnow family’s day spa and wellness centre.

The club is probably paying overs to “use” the facilities

Then they’ll convince the Blues that Jed Bews and a second rounder is fair value for Curnow.

Oh. On the condition Carlton throw in their first rounder as well of course.

So like Judd with Visy. You could use that contract to pay your coach millions, but only pay them a few dollars under the official “cap”?

As long as you have a few big money backers, you could potentially build the best coaching team in the comp

Sort of. You can pay them $100k outside the cap no worries. After that you’re dependent on whether the AFL thinks it’s legit or not. And, as seen with geelong, even not disclosing the existence of an agreement is a violation of the rules, regardless of whether or not the agreement itself is allowed.

If we went and got Chris Fagan and paid him $60k a year, but weirdly he also signed a $3m a year ambassador gig with Toll, I’m pretty confident the AFL would ■■■■ us into the dirt.

If only we could blame all the problems Essendon have had over the past 25 years on ‘Administrative Errors’. Great to see Geelong have been slapped with a wet lettuce again

This was Essendon we would have picks taken from us

A wet lettuce would at least be crisp and sort of hard.

The lettuce in this case is a single leaf that is warm, soft and limp.

If all the presidents don’t march on AFLHQ with a please explain then, the whole system is a joke. 6 Years! At least 6 Years! Is there an * against their last premiership as they had salary rorted that.

No “please explain” or sanctions against Bailey Smith’s deal? But they will look at his next negotiation? WTF is that BS?! His contract is in breach of salary cap!

We have a bunch of cheaters down in Geelong! Carlton should be ropeable.

“Some details of the actual breaches which the Cats believe are minor. An academy camp held at the farm of a club associate without lodgement. A night of accomodation given out without payment in Queensland. But no breaches involving financial deals.”
