Does this mean Essendon got one right…?
I thought he left because GWS offered him a 2 year contract?
But, but, he got a 2 year deal!
So was the 2 year deal dependent on a trigger or just a lie?
But the two parties came back to the table on Wednesday and thrashed out a deal, with Stringer signing a two-year deal with the Giants in exchange for pick 53.
So they delisted him and paid out his contract?
How does that work if they relist him?
They probably don’t have to pay him out unless they fail to pick him up again.
OCTOBER 31 — GIANTS MAKE BOLD STRINGER CALL
The Giants have boldly opted to delist Jake Stringer with the promise of listing him again.
The club has done the same with teammate Conor Stone in moves that will ensure it goes into the draft with the requisite amount of picks.
While the duo — who were initially contracted into 2026 — have received commitments to be re-listed, there’s no guarantee that a rival club won’t swoop on either of the two during the upcoming draft period.
The Giants say Stringer and Stone remain “firmly in the club’s plans for the 2026 season”.
Club talent boss Adrian Caruso said: “This is a common process we need to follow most seasons to prepare appropriately for the National Draft.
“Both Conor and Jake fully understand and support the move, and they’re aware of our ongoing commitment to them as players.”
Nobody is going to pinch Jake Stringer.
Conor Stone, though. He might pique some interests.
“Club talent boss Adrian”
Had Vietnam-like flashbacks then
Caruso’s recent drafting tactics have been almost as questionable as Dodoro’s. To be fair, he’s a genuinely nice bloke, I’ve spoken to him a few times, but he tends to overthink things and tries to be too clever. Honestly, I think his approach has cost the Giants a real shot at a flag over the past few years, right when they’ve been in their premiership window.
It seems a little unclear, are they saying that they’ll redraft Stringer and Stone with their two ND picks?
They are still meant to be taking Laverde as well aren’t they?
I doubt they are using their draft picks to pick them back up. This is usually a delist and re-pick in the rookie draft strategy.
They currently have 35 players on the senior list, 1 rookie and 2 category B players.
So they can take 3 national draft picks (reach max 38 on senior list) and the rest can be rookies.
So Laverde, Stringer and Stone will be their rookie draft picks bringing them up to a total of 44 players on a list which is the max list total list size.
I don’t know if they are allowed to have more than 44 on their list like they had during their early years.
The reality is he’s been delisted and might end up as a rookie listed player. Essendon did the right thing trading him. I’d be surprised if Giants get more than 6-7 good games out of him from here.
Even if he dominates in 2026, this remains true.
Weren’t we into Conor Stone during last year’s trade period?
Supposedly.
