Was going to say the same, real 2003-4 areas. Some absolute A graders. Some dudes who were good when the team was good, and a lot of rubbish as well.
Will dominate some games, have some poor losses, make finals, but never go above the premiership threat level of ‘wouldn’t rule them out’.

Collingwood are anyone’s guess this year. If enough goes wrong they could go bottom 4 or 5. They could also potentially go close to a prelim.
I’m at a point where I’m almost more interested in the Collingwood decline into the depths of hell than our own success.

I want to write them off. I really, really do.
But they always seem to find something which keeps them there or thereabouts. Whether it’s Dan Houston finding AA form again, some random popping up and becoming a reliable path to goal (e.g., Jack Buller), Pendlebury moving to a flank and dominating because he doesn’t need to play at a midfielders pace - I don’t know what it’ll be, but it’s always something.
I hope that I’m wrong and they are ■■■■ and stay ■■■■ for a while. But history suggests they will find something and be better than they should be.

With the Daicos boys and a few oldies they’ll be competitive I suppose. But I like the vision @Heffsgirl paints. Like of a Collingwood renting a large flat somewhere in the Demons cave of hot hellness down there.
They’ll go well, until the injuries kick in and they drop post bye into our Hotel California of mid table desert island.
But I so wish we beat them on AZ Day.

They need absolutely everything going right to be a threat. If that happens, then they do have the talent to mount a serious premiership tilt. But the amount of older players they have, the seemingly dearth of quality youngsters coming through, if they get injuries they will be exposed more than say Brisbane. Not sure about top 4, but definitely good enough to finish bottom half of the 8 and would be a tough out in the elimination finals. You’d still be worried if they made it through the wildcard rounds and snuck in that way.
Wow their drafting has been nothing short of sensational of late. So many good kids knocking down the door to replace the geriatrics. May they long suffer in their jocks.

With Tassie just around the corner taking all the cream of the draft they are farked
They will always attract free agents but unless they have a good young core they won’t be a premiership contender. Looking at their list outside of the Daicos brothers - who I can’t imagine them ever trading - there are minimal trade chips for them to leverage.

If Nick Daicos leaves for Tassie, they’ll get a massive haul given he’s still under contract by that time and not a free agent. Probably would assist them in getting bulk young talent through the door, as much as losing him would hurt.
They are copping plenty for this online, especially from their own fans.
