See you in finals next week - match review vs KKKollingwood

Nicely done boys. Onwards to next week. Been a very long time since I’ve felt confident of being able to get a finals win but this year is it.

Wow, we made finals. And didn’t just fall in. A percentage of over 109 is testament to that.

I can’t help thinking back to the aftermarth of the Port game. We’d just been pumped. We were 0-2. We’d lost three key players to long term injuries. And this was in the wake of losing our generational key forward and great white hope, together with two of the best half backs in the game, in the offseason. It looked as grim as it has for us in the last 20 years (which is a pretty bloody high bar).

And then somehow we turned it around. And I still can’t quite understand how. But for once we were playing the kids, like actually playing them as our first choice, not just because there was no one left.

It didn’t work straight away - we were 2-6, always seemingly on the end of tight losses, but it was clear that something had changed. And there seemed to be a genuine belief in what we were doing for the first time since Worsfold took over.

Since then we’ve discovered that we actually already had one of the best midfield trios in the comp without needing to add a BBM. We already had him and his name is Jake “Jake Stringer role” Stringer.

Our entirety new backline made up mostly of players who were struggling with injury and form playing other positions continued to grow in confidence.

We had two of the best moneyball trades in recent years in Hind and Wright. Add on Durham to complement Snelling as players taken in the MSD to have an immediate impact.

Three of the most promising young players in the comp in Harry freaking Jones, Cox and Perkins.

And, above all else, a team unity and cohesion which is better than I can remember. And this obviously contributed to re-signing all of our key players, including our best in Merrett who looked gone for all money six months ago.

Now we are on the eve of a finals berth. And one where we can genuinely consider ourselves a good chance of breaking a nearly 18 year drought. But even if we don’t, this will be the most enjoyable season we’ve had since we did win one.

■■■■ yeah. Go Dons.

Our midfield is humming along very nicely, Wright has found form at the right time of the season. Stewart seems to have improved recently, Smith must have got a rocket up his ■■■■ about selfish acts and turned his game around.

Much to love!! We are so set for the business end of the season. Hope I’m not getting ahead of myself.

Reckon redmans gone

Watching Mayne walk off the ground with Perkins was like beauty and the beast.

Had control of the match, relaxed towards the end (except Redman) and we ran out with tha comfortable win.

Was very impressed by how our ball movement has improved and we maintain our structures with players in the right positions. Particularly pleasing is seeing a lot more running to space to offer uncontested leads.

We are a much better and more consistent side.
