Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 1, May 2019)

I don’t believe incompetence should be rewarded.

How could you possibly think that? From the day he decided to get Dank to inject him with something it’s been been poor decision after poor decision.

The contract is between the club and the player…

I’ve heard reports that some of the players might have to sell their yachts.

It’s been a tough year for us all.

That’s ok. I heard that got some footy skills as part of the trade in for their boats.

Kyle clearly not happy.

Teflon Campbell hanging around the club like a fart stain in second hand op-shop undies.

AFL person 1 - We need to take the pressure off of us with this whole Collingwood and Footscray thing. We are starting to look bad.
AFL person 2 - I agree. We need to find someone who we control, who is incompetent enough and bungles stuff anyway.
AFL person 1 - They need to be someone who doesn’t mind having their team on the back pages for the wrong type of thing.
AFL person 2 - And we will tell them they are helping us out.
AFL Person 1 and 2 (at the same time) - LETS CALL X

some time later…

X - Done

It’s between the club and the player and the AFL. And it’s managed by their manager.

Because it shows a level of detachment that is pretty unacceptable.

It’s not exactly relevant that every player in the comp knows that reductions were coming. I’m sure players that know each other across clubs would have had reason to talk about the hit to their personal finances and the AFLPA would have had some kind of front foot communication about being aware that payment to players would be affected. With that in mind, with the level of unease and apprehension that would likely be out there amongst all players who are not sure how they’re affected, to handle to conversation by making it all one way, as in, this is happening, this is how much, and this is when it’s happening, direct any further correspondence to HR, is nothing short of ■■■■ poor. It’s sent one message and one message alone, which is that the XC does not give a ■■■■ about the players.

It reeks of by passing or going rogue.

Who sends out an email telling all staff they are getting a 10% pay cut and doesn’t expect a backlash.
Lol. This club is cooked.

If Brasher doesn’t sack him, Teflon should resign. This is unforgiveable he latest stuff up. Who cares if we are the richest Club in the World if the core business - winning Flags - is at the back of his “to Do” list? ■■■■ off Teflon.

Backs up the comments from an ex-employee that the club has a feeling of a corporate business, not a football club anymore.

It would have been far more sensible to schedule meetings with players, mgmt, ALFPA reps etc, then at the end of it (even if the 9% withholding (which technically isn’t a paycut) still happens,) at least the club can issue a press release along the lines of “After negotiation with players and mgmt, due to the salary cap tightening by the AFL, the EFC playing group has agreed to xyz.” That would have been a lot better than “After 0 consultation, players were emailed at 8pm on Friday via by EFC execs informing them that the players’ pay would be down 9% this month.”

Exactly, so you send an email notifying players that discussions about payments will be rolling out over the next ‘x period’ on the back of notification from the AFL that there is no decision on how they will be providing funds to clubs. Which you do well before 9pm on a Friday, so that it doesn’t look like ■■■■■■■ amateur hour. Then, come Monday morning, you book everyone one of those one on one meetings with player, manager and HR present. It’s not that hard. It’s bare bones professionalism.

The idea of having a CEO of any business, especially one where the key is managing a large number of people, is to make sure you ‘take them along with you’. You certainly do not alienate them for no purpose. Agree with charliepayne7 that X should resign or be sacked.
