Watched the 7 coverage and glad I did because I was so happy last night and me hearing what she said would have a put a sour note on good night for me.
She was asked a genuine question and itās her job. Thought it was a perfect response.
I just donāt agree with her thoughts on how long it will take
What did she say?
While Jon Ralph stood there with a smirk on his face, mocking her.
She seemed disappointed with the win
She was asked how long before Essendon can win a final and she replied that she doesnāt believe we have the talent on our list and we canāt keep finishing 8th to 12th and need to bottom out to get the quality draft picks and bring in elite talent.
When pressed further she said that with 2 good drafts we could win a final in the next 3 years
How do we know we will finish between 8th-12th we could still finish bottom four
I know us men are simple creatures who struggle to have more than one emotion at a time.
But it is actually possible to be glad to see us win, but be deeply concerned about where the club is at.
yep and what she said is exactly right! Love her. This win might end up like being the same as the north win couple of years back which cost them Harley. Especially when we were trash for 3 quarters.
I just think we should enjoy what ever wins come our way because we might not win many.
I love a win but also got to think big picture. Win will be forgotten in a fortnight whereas our current predicament stays much much longer
Because we have seen this movie many times before. How many times have we just missed out on the cream by a couple of picks. We never seem to want to really bottom out.
Last year we did it again, that win against Freo cost us 3 spots
Spot on.
My other huge problem is what this period is doing to our next generation of supporters.
Ill use my family as examples. My kids are 14 and 12. They both used to go to all the dons games with me when they were much younger. Now they HATE the AFL and think its dog ā ā ā ā . They are embarrassed to tell school friends whom they go for. The love the NRL and the storm (I love both codes as I am a QLD born boy)
If we do not fix our club in the next 10 years then we will have lost most an entire generation as when they start having kids the passing on of bombers will be basically lost. I know my family is probably not typical but I am sure there is a bloody lot like mine
Youngest team in the first 2 rounds if thatās not bottoming out I donāt know what is
being young and also losing for a year or two
Bottoming out is literally finishing on the bottom of the ladder
the only different between the 2 is intent.
Hawthorn was supposedly tanking, but look where they are now.
Some people seem to confuse pragmatically analysing youāre list, deeming it unfit to where you want to get to, and making drastic changes to achieve it.
Case in point, people see dropping shiel as tanking, whereas if you drop him, you potentially lose 5-10 stuff ups, and major stuff ups a game. a Kid could produce similar, or even better produce a better result, you get a win.
I donāt think we are doing either. Rebuilding and tanking requires an active decision and choice in doing something.
edwards is only in cos langford is injured
tsartas is potentially only in cos parish is injured.
reid up until last night was more than likely only keeping lavās seat warm.
When ( or more than likely IF with this club) everyone is fit, and the youngsters keep their spots above the likes of the above, guelfi, wright etc then you can mount a case for either.
Until then, we have 8 odd injuries to senior players, which dictates playing the next in line, which generally is untried and inexperienced kids.
One win could be the difference between getting Christian Petracca or Caleb Marchbank in the draft.
Or Marcus Bontempeli or Matthew Scharenberg.
We donāt have to finish dead last to bottom out. Did Hawks finish dead last when they bottomed out no they didnāt
